The Centre for Human Rights was established in October 2008 as part of Addis Ababa University’s epistemological and structural shift from a primarily undergraduate studies’ institution to a research-oriented graduate university. The Centre for Human Rights has the mission of advancing the rule of law, democratic governance and human rights in Ethiopia through high-end research, teaching and community services.
Currently, the Centre is organized under the College of Law and Governance Studies, established in 2012 as umbrella institution for the Center, the Institute of Federal Studies and the School of Law.
The Centre for Human Rights is housed at the Kifle Wodajo Memorial Center for Peace, Human Rights, and Democracy, located at the FBE Campus of Addis Ababa University.

Position 1: Admin Assistants
Job Description
Summary of Major Duties:
- Provide office support services to the project area office and its manager, including word-processing and secretarial support;
- Maintain the general filing system and file all correspondence;
- Assist in the planning and preparation of meetings, conferences and

JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
Certificate or Diploma in secretarial science, IT, office management and other related fields.
Work Experience:
At least one year of relevant experience for diploma or two years for Certificate

Position 2: Legal Officer
Job Description
SUMMARY OF MAJOR DUTIES
- Provide legal aid services including preparation of pleadings and other legal document, provision of advice and referral services to target beneficiaries of the project.
- Follow clients cases and regularly communicate with justice sector actors;
- Identify and compile legal issues that frequently occur in the provision of legal aid and file in a suitable way for research and future interventions;
- Prepare a compendium of cases and legal instruments including federal supreme court cassation bench decisions regarding the focus on the project
- Assist the Regional/ Project Area Manager in the preparation of plans and report
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
First degree in law or other related discipline;
Work Experience:
At least 2 (two) years of work experience
Experience in legal/court practice;
Good interpersonal communication;
Proficiency in Affan Oromo is mandatory

Position 3: Legal, Training and Support Officer
Job Description
SUMMARY OF MAJOR DUTIES
- Provide legal aid services including preparation of pleadings and other legal document, provision of advice and referral services to target beneficiaries of the project.
- Assist the Regional/Project Area Manager in following client’s cases and regularly communicate with justice sector actors;
- Assist the Regional/Project Area Manager in organization of community rights trainings;
- Identify and contact community leaders and others for community rights promotion, trainings and dialogue;
- Prepare a compendium of cases and legal instruments including federal supreme court cassation bench decisions regarding the focus on the project
- Assist the Regional/ Project Area Manager in the preparation of plans and report,
- Perform other duties as may be assigned;
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
First degree in law or other related discipline;
Work Experience:
At least Two (2) years of work experience
Experience in legal/court practice;
Experience in project management and community engagement is a plus;
Good interpersonal communication;

20,000.00 (plus employment benefits for Addis Ababa)
15,000.00 (plus employment benefits for Hawassa)

Position 4: Administration and Finance Officer
Job Description
SUMMARY OF MAJOR DUTIES
- Coordinate activities falling under the Multidisciplinary Human Rights Education and Training & Research, Policy and Practical Collaboration and Diffusion subprojects;
- Coordinate the design and development of curriculum, textbook, and manuals and carry out related activities;
- Plan and coordinate academic training and education activities of the Sub-Project;
- Coordinate the organization of policy dialogue forums on strategic themes, facilitate research activities; collection and organization of research and information on human rights; organization of experience sharing workshops; hosting international researchers and students;
- Prepare quarterly, biannual and annual plans in collaboration with Sub-Projects and other project staff assigned;
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual reports regarding the Sub-Projects and submit them to Lead Coordinator;
- Ensure that planned activities are carried out in accordance with plan and within the agreed time frame;
- Oversee and supervise the quality of trainings, workshops, policy dialogues, research activities, academic conference and other activities provided under the Sub-Projects;
- Supervise project employee under the position;
- Liaise with the university’s procurement and Administration office;
- Promote the values of CHR including respect for human rights, gender equality, tolerance, transparency, and constructive engagement with all partners and stakeholders.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
Minimum of BA degree in accounting, business administration or related fields;
Work Experience:
Employment experience of Minimum of 3 years for first Degree, and 1 year for Masters degree;
Experience in donor funded project fiancé or administration;
Knowledge of IFMIS and government procurement rules and regulations is a plus

Position 5: Sub Project III Manger (Community Based Human Rights Promotion and Protection)
Job Description
SUMMARY OF MAJOR DUTIES
- Assist the Center in the implementation of the sub-Project;
- Plan, implement and manage the sub-project activities;
- In consultation with finance and admin staff, ensure that funds are spent and accounted for in the sub-Project planned activities;
- Lead the day-to-day activities of the sub-Project by coordinating project area managers;
- In consultation with finance and procurement officers, prepare, as required, monthly, quarterly and annual plans of with budget, submit for approval and ensure implementation once approved;
- Monitor areas office staff and ensure the services in project sites are implemented smoothly;
- Conduct regular monitoring of project centers;
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in law or relevant social sciences or Human Rights or other relevant fields;
Work Experience:
At least 5 years (for MA/LLM) and 8 years (for LLB/BA) work experience;
Strong writing skills and experience in report writing.
Excellent command of English and Amharic.
Salary (Gross): 37,500.00 (plus employment benefits)
