The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).

AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 376/2016 as biomedical research, clinical trial and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.

Armauer Hansen would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following position.

Position 1: Junior Researcher_ Public Health or Health informatics

Qualifications

  • BSc Degree in Public Health or Health informatics fields from a recognized university. Minimum CGPA of 3.00 for male and 2.75 for female applicants
  • Zero year work experience
  • Willingness to travel to and work in rural and remote field settings for long period of time
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills of English and Afan Oromo languages.
  • Other Competencies Experience on data management tools such as ODK, REDCap, KoboToolbox etc is an advantage Data analysis skill with R and STATA and project data monitoring is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge in research methodology and research designs.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet use)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill Getting a Consent and Patient Interview Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels Ability to work with others/team work, including international collaborators.

Terms of employment: one-year contract period with full-time employment basis, with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.

Salary: ETB 10,386.00

Duty station:

Addis Ababa with frequent travel to West Arsi Zone, selected Woredas (Shashemene Zuria, Negele Arsi and Shalla Woreda), Oromia Region, Ethiopia

Position 2: Junior Researcher_ Medical Laboratory Technologist

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in clinical or research laboratory settings, preferably in malaria diagnostics.
  • Proficiency in blood collection techniques and handling biological samples.
  • Experience with malaria microscopy, RDTs, and routine laboratory technique.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control and biosafety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Fluency in Afan Oromo language (spoken and written) is mandatory.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with research participants in a professional manner.

Terms of employment: one-year contract period with full-time employment basis, with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.

Salary: ETB 10,386.00 (Ten Thousand Three Hundred Eighty Six Birr)

Duty station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to Shalla woreda of West Arsi Zone, Oromia region

Position 3: Junior Researcher_ Malaria Microscopist

Qualifications:

  • BSc Degree in Laboratory Sciences/Technology from a recognized institution, having experience in malaria microscopy is an advantage
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control and biosafety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment

Skills and Competences

  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Self-driven, motivated, and result-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal communication
  • Willing to support others and share workloads
  • Flexible to work off-working hours or weekends and holidays as needed

Terms of employment: one-year contract period with full-time employment basis, with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.

Salary: ETB 10,386.00

Duty station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to Shalla woreda of West Arsi Zone
