CARE Ethiopia would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: Humanitarian Project Officer – ESNFI

GENDER EQUALITY:

  • Understanding and demonstrated commitment to the importance of gender, youth, and social inclusion issues.

Qualifications

Required:

  • At least Bachelor’s degree in any related field of study
  • 3 years of relevant experience with the first degree or 2 years of relevant experience plus post graduate degree in project management preferably in humanitarian aid and more specifically in emergency shelter and non-food items 
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English, budget planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, report writing
  • Proficiency in standard office software package
  • Good interpersonal communication skill and ability to effectively liaise with government, community leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of the importance of gender, youth and social inclusion
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of gender, equity, diversity, inclusion and PSHEA (safeguarding) through previous positions or programming experience.

Desired:

  • Working knowledge of programming in humanitarian contexts
  • Knowledge of local languages

  • Knowledge of ESNFI guidelines and protocols

Position 2: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer

Job Summary

SPIR seeks Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) officer for its USAID-funded Development Food Security Activity, Strengthen PSNP4 Institutions and Resilience. The primary role MHPSS Officer is to train, supervise and closely support the Health Community Facilitators and Men Engagement Facilitators in their role of facilitating the IPT-G sessions at the community level. The MHPSS Officers will first gain experience through conducting a 12-week IPT-G session themselves, with close support received from the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support advisor and other international partners who have recently conducted this intervention in Uganda. The MHPSS Officer will be responsible to support, monitor and ensure the quality of this intervention in all designated kebeles in the duty woreda.   

A) Education

  • BA. in Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, or Occupational Therapy
  • Demonstrated interest in social work and helping others.
  • A person who has completed an IPT training course is an asset

B) Work Experience

  • 3 years of relevant experience with first degree or 2 years of relevant experience with second degree as a Psychiatric Nurse, or a Health Officer or Social worker with mental health experience
  • Experience of working with people with depression and their families (2 years or more)
  • Broad and in-depth understanding of issues relating to mental health, specifically depression
  • Experience facilitating groups (ex. self-help groups)

C) Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Understanding of self-help approaches and empowerment in mental health
  • Understanding of general patient evaluation approaches.
  • Excellent group facilitation skills, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to develop, inform and sustain professional relationships, partnerships and networks
  • Ability to work in collaboration with people with depression, families, and other staff/services involved in their support

D) Personal Qualities

  • Empathy with the goal of treating depression
  • Natural team player

Language Skills:

  • Ability to communicate and write clearly in English is desirable and local language (Amharic and   Afan Oromo) proficiency is required. 

Duty station: Chiro & Doba Woredas

Work environment:

 Frequent travel to the designated kebeles for co-facilitation, monitoring or supportive supervision of the Health Community Facilitators

Salary: $938.00

Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience with the first degree.
  • 4 years of relevant experience plus post graduate degree.
  • At least 1 year of management experience.
  • NGO experience is a plus.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Required:

  • Proficiency in verbal and written English, proposal development, strategic and operational planning, budget planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, report writing;
  • Proficiency in standard office software package;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to inspire and empower others;
  • Good interpersonal communication skill and ability to effectively liaise with government, community leaders and other stakeholders;
  • Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, and conceptual understanding of participatory approach and sustainable development.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Knowledgeable in participatory planning

Desired:

  • Skills in organizing and facilitating training events;
  • Expertise in one or more of the following program areas: nutrition/health, water/santitation, food security, commodity management.
