Position 1: Project Administrator
Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for a competent Project Administrator who will be responsible to organize and coordinate research project and field activities at CDT-AFRICA. She/he must be duty-minded person with capability of time-management and multitasking. The goal is to contribute to the efficiency of the overall activity by ensuring all assigned administrative duties are carried timely and efficiently.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist and coordinate administrative and financial processes (requests, authorizations, payments, purchases, reporting, etc.) as deemed necessary.
- Maintain good record of project undertakings in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and liaison with stakeholders/partners.
- Facilitation of field and laboratory activities.
- Maintain good working relations with CDT-AFRICA staff, project leaders, and Center Lead.
- Handle confidential documents ensuring they remain secure.
- Monitor office supplies and items.
- Maintain electronic and paper records ensuring information is organized and easily accessible.
- Draft reports or documents as assigned.
- Take and archive meeting minutes.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Terms and conditions
- Hours of Work: Are governed by the laws of Ethiopia. However, the nature of the work is such that it might require working overtime and weekends.
- Holidays: Are governed by the rules of Addis Ababa University for project workers.
- Length of Contract: This is a one-year position subject to annual contract renewals.
- Probationary Period and Notice Period: There is a three-month probationary period for this role.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- At least BA or MA in Project / Business Management or Secretarial Science from a recognized University.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Project Administrator or any other related role for MA or at least 3 years of experience for BA.
- Proficiency in MS Office skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Good communication and negotiation abilities.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Integrity and confidentiality.
- Experience in English writing & communication skills is mandatory

Position 2: Laboratory Assistant
The Role of the Laboratory Assistant:
The successful applicant will be responsible for management of L-BioBank and will assist in specimen collection under guidance of the Project Lead Scientist, and CDT-Africa Centre Lead.
Principal responsibilities:
- Work closely with the researchers in L-BioBank project to plan and co-ordinate study activities.
- Responsible for design, implementation and curation of L-BioBank activities.
- Will be responsible for development and write-up of Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) concerning archival, retrieval and cataloguing of specimens.
- Will manage the BioBank Unit at Sefere Selam campus.
- Will manage the data base concerning the leishmania biobank.
- Generate documentation in compliance with Quality Systems and Good Laboratory Practices
- Identifies potential problems early in a project and implementation phase and makes suggestions on how to resolve them while keeping key deadlines in mind
- Maintain laboratory notebooks
- Ensure standards and the quality of laboratory procedures by strictly following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Adhere to biosafety measures adopted in the laboratory, minding the safety of oneself and others
- Facilitate to maintenance of established system of organized record keeping and information management for timely delivery of results, data collection, analysis and reporting for laboratory monitoring and facilitation to operational research.
- Facilitate in maintenance of laboratory equipment in good working order and operate equipment appropriately following SOPs.
- Take additional tasks as directed by the immediate supervisor or Centre Lead.
Terms and conditions:
- Hours of work: are governed by the laws of Ethiopia. However, the nature of the work is such that it might require working overtime and weekends, with due financial compensation.
- Holidays: are governed by the rules of Addis Ababa University for project workers.
- Length of contract: this is a one-year contract subject to six monthly contract renewal.
- Probationary period and notice period: there is a three-month probationary period for this role. The notice period is one month.

Position 3: PhD Program Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities:
- At a minimum, the responsibilities of the PhD Program Coordinator are:
- Serves as a point person and information source for Faculty and PhD students;
- Coordinates the selection and inclusion of guest professors in consultation with Faculty;
- Assists Faculty in some teaching and laboratory demonstration sessions;
- Coordinates students’ attachments and site visits to external institutions;
- Supports students in their proposal and thesis works;
- Follow-up and manage the timely completion of course works and exams;
- Oversees the PhD day-to-day teaching-learning activities;
- Ensures the students have the support and regular resources including classrooms, workspaces, and laboratories required to undertake effective academic and research works;
- Ensures that assigned supervisors are monitoring progress effectively;
- Keeps copies of students’ grade reports, research protocols, and all correspondence about their academic and research works;
- Creates opportunities for experience sharing and research dissemination, including conferences, seminars, and panel discussion events where the PhD students present their progress to a wider community;
- Creates short-term training opportunities for PhD students relevant to their projects;
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Location: CDT-Africa office, College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University
Terms of Employment: One year on a full-time basis, with the possibility of extension

Job Requirements
Qualification and experience:
- Holds PhD in biomedical sciences relevant to translational medicine;
- Proven familiarity with specific university legislations and administrative processes, and more desirable if the candidate has prior experience of the academic system and culture of the Addis Ababa University;
- Being active in research within the last five years as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, grants, or other such expressions appropriate to translational medicine;
- Preferably in active contact with national, regional, and international academic institutions.
Other Competencies:
- Ability to work collaboratively with CDT-Africa Faculty and staff and build trust in colleagues; able to foster cooperation among academic and research teams and relevant stakeholders.
Accountability:
- The PhD Program Coordinator is responsible for reporting on activities to the CDT-Africa Training Lead, individual program coordinators and the Center Leader.

Position 4: Project Coordinator
General Objective:
The general objective of this Science for Children project is to promote Science, technology, and innovation among Ethiopian children by producing resources and materials that inspire and cultivate their potential and interest in science and technology. The project
The Role of the Coordinator:
- The project coordinator will be responsible for managing the Science for Children Project and reports to the Executive Director:
Principal responsibilities:
- Coordinate the development of science and innovation resources and information for children aged 4-12 years;
- Coordinate the production of science, technology, and innovation media programs to address the demands of young children aged 4-12 years;
- Coordinate the development of indigenous knowledge resources for science education and innovation;
- Organize national and regional science and innovation discussions and resource assessments;
- Actively engage institutions, individuals and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to innovation education and awareness-raising activities of the young generation;
- Work closely with the Executive Director, Steering Committee and the project advisors on the smooth running of the project to make sure high quality science and technology resource are available for teachers, parents and children;
- Coordinate the development of ToR for Steering committee, executive director, and each project team.
- Engage external advisors, organize periodic meetings;
- Manage Students Science summer camps (generate ideas, develop programs, promote and execute)
- Liaise actively with stakeholders. The project is a mutli-stakeholder project and it is very important to engage actively with the stakeholders.
- Work closely with each project team to make sure there is sufficient content for production
- Engage with AAU various faculties to get appropriate content
- Develop operational protocols, production schedules …
- Ensure all project staffs are aware of ethical procedures and adhere to them.
- Carry out additional tasks as directed by the executive director
