Digital Green is an international non-government organization that empowers smallholder farmers to lift themselves out of poverty by harnessing the collective power of technology and grassroots-level partnerships. We join forces with governments, private agencies, CSOs and, most importantly, rural communities themselves to co-create digital solutions that help smallholder farmers increase productivity and income. In Ethiopia, Digital Green is working in four regions in introducing and scaling video-extension approach, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Bureaus of Agriculture and Natural Resource. Position 1: – Field Coordinators – Farmer Organization

Job Summary

Reporting to the Agribusiness Manager, this role involves directly working with the woreda Cooperative Promotion Office, Woreda Agricultural Office, Farmers, other Farmer Organizations and other local partners, and providing guidance as well as ensuring that Partners are delivering on program objectives and targets. It includes providing support in the implementation of digital solutions, conducting and facilitating various capacity building work planned in capacitating the cooperatives, and closely support the cooperative work that Digital Green is aiming to carry out. The ideal candidate will have experience in implementing digital solutions at the community level and a good understanding of cooperative and other Farmer Organizations operations and needs as a whole

Job Purpose

To ensure timely, cost effective and efficient delivery of Digital Green Ethiopia‘s services in the designated area of operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the program team specifically Agribusiness Manager and the technology team to execute annual work plans and achieve targets and deliverables;
  • Ensure progress and achievements are tracked against established work plans;
  • Work with cooperatives and Farmer Organizations to understand their needs and provide support through capacity building initiatives such as training, workshops, and any technical support provided to improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate the implementation of digital solutions provided by Digital Green to improve the efficiency of the cooperatives’ operations, including Farmer Profiling, financial management, and record-keeping.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with cooperative members, leaders, other farmer organizations, government partners, local partners, and stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
  • Coordinate the monitoring of the progress of the cooperative/farmer organizations and provide regular updates to the Agribusiness Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate field travel for Digital Green team members as well as external stakeholders;
  • Support the implementation of the various monitoring and evaluation methods determined by the Digital Green Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) team.
  • Ensure Partners complete necessary documentation and record keeping according to the standard accurately in a timely manner
  • Document case studies, best practices, and success stories at the cooperative
  • Identify and report potential challenges and difficulties encountered during program execution to Digital Green Program Team to resolve issues on time.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, as well as government regulations.
  • Facilitate video production and dissemination

  • Bachelors or higher degree, in cooperative management, Management, economics, business management, accounting or related fields
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in working with cooperatives and various Farmer Organizations.
  • Proven experience in the implementation of digital solutions at the community level will be required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to remote areas.
  • Afaan Oromoo language proficiency
  • Strong project and product implementation Skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the team using digital tools like Gmail, WhatsApp, Google Chat, Telegram, and others.
  • Proficiency in using Google Cloud products such as Google Docs, Google Slides, Google sheets and other knowledge documentation tools will be preferred.

Position 2: Climate Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

  • Reporting to Digital Green’s Program Director, the Climate Specialist position will be responsible to:
  • Analyzes existing climate or environmental management legislation, regulations, policies, and practices to determine actual and potential intervention areas
  • Provides technical support on science-based approach/solution to climate mitigation and adaptation in Digital Green areas of intervention
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to develop educational and outreach programs regarding climate change
  • Support the identification of up-scaling opportunities and strategies based on the results and recommendations of previous and existing projects
  • Support knowledge management activities
  • Enhance climate resilience approach mainstreaming in Digital Green portfolio & programming
  • Provide internal capacity-building and guidance to program teams by providing trainings, technical support that reflect climate priorities throughout program design and implementation

Key Responsibilities

Direct implementation support for Climate Change project(s):

  • Provide overall operational and technical support for the delivery of Climate Change and resilience projects working in close collaboration with program teams
  • Collaborate with program and thematic teams to integrate a climate lens to advisory content
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of the projects
  • Support the identification of up-scaling opportunities and strategies in operational areas based on the results and recommendations from the past / existing projects
  • Support knowledge management activities

Strategic program/project planning, coordination and implementation:

  • Lead planning, coordination and support implementation of climate change adaptation projects
  • Oversee implementation progress on climate focused actions and liaise with partners
  • Contribute to identifying new strategic programming opportunities and partnerships in the area of low GHG emission climate resilient model development
  • Participate in technical dialogue, common strategic visioning, mainstreaming, programming and other collaboration within the program team

Effective Management/Delivery of Climate Change Portfolio:

  • Support the achievement of timely and effective management of climate focused projects/actions delivery for achievement of high standard results:
  • Facilitate information gathering and preparation of annual project implementation reviews and external evaluations;
  • Identify any recurrent problems or trends and identify and suggest remedies and solutions such as training, guidelines, etc.
  • Provide management with advice relating to strategic climate direction of project implementation
  • Help farmer organizations identify high impact investments that will improve their climate resilience

Learning, Knowledge Management and Self Development:

  • Evaluate, capture, synthesize lessons and stimulate the uptake of best practices and knowledge
  • Collaborate with Global thematic leads (Climate and Gender) to integrate climate perspective across organizational activities
  • Respond to queries on programme/project progress, impacts and lessons
  • Train staff and partners on Climate related topics
  • Facilitate cross learning between various projects on climate related issues

Strategic advice on Climate Change:

  • Enhance climate change mainstreaming in Digital Green Ethiopia portfolio & programming
  • Enhance knowledge management and communication of impact results in the area of climate change
  • Create and drive convergence platforms at including partners who work on climate issues
  • Develop (directly or with partners) contextually relevant training content for DG staff, partners and farmer organizations on how climate change is impacting agriculture and actions to adapt + mitigate
  • Provide thought leadership internally and externally, sharing Digital Green’s insights and learnings; manage and build expert partnerships and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experiences

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Development Economics, Soil Science, Agronomy or other closely-related field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in the area of climate change and natural resources management, agroforestry or agriculture
  • Experience in the policy development processes associated with climate change
  • Experience in research and or implementation of science based climate adaptation and/or mitigation initiatives in agriculture, agroforestry
  • Experience with measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) approaches for quantifying ecosystem services incl GHG emissions, water usage, biodiversity, etc.
  • Strong analytical, writing, communication and advocacy skills
  • Skills in facilitation and coordination, entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated ability to work in an independent manner
  • Excellent drafting ability and presentation and communication skills, both oral and written; ability to explain complex issues to Digital Green staff and external partners
  • Proven capacity to translate complex climate change information for non-technical professional users
  • Knowledge of broader disaster risk management (including non-climate risks and hazards) would be useful
  • Knowledge of gender and social inclusion for climate change will be required

Position 3: Software Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of the Software engineer will include, but is not limited to the following: Support the end-to-end development of Digital Green’s digital platform (FarmStack) in partnership with Digital Green’s global technology team and external technology partners.

  • Work with team members to understand user requirements and design, develop, test and document software that meet the requirements
  • Develop system architecture to solve problems
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by using flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
  • Execute full lifecycle of software development
  • Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies and help introduce them where appropriate
  • Analyze system specifications and translate system requirements to task specifications
  • Provide analysis of current programs, which includes performance, diagnosis and troubleshooting of problem programs, and designing solutions to problematic programming
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Document and maintain software functionality
  • Tailor and deploy software tools, processes and metrics
  • Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming

  • 3-5 years of software development and programing experience
  • Relevant experience in Android app development
  • Proficiency in Kotlin (must) or Java languages to write clear, readable, and maintainable code
  • Knowledge on working Mobile app architecture, flow, design, implementation, and release
  • Familiar with RESTful/GraphQL APIs and XML to connect the app with backend services
  • Hands on experience on web application development Frontend (Javascript, React Js, Material UI,CSS) and backend(Python or Javascript/node js) is required
  • Experience in Android SDK and Android Studio
  • Must have deep knowledge of Relational Databases, SQL and ORM technologies
  • Experience with profiling, load simulation, Linux optimization, and database optimization is required

Position 4: Field Coordinator

Job Purpose

To ensure timely, cost effective and efficient delivery of Digital Green Ethiopia‘s services in the designated area of operation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Work plans

  • Work directly with the Regional Manager and Regional Technical Coordinator to execute annual work plans and achieve targets and deliverables;
  • Ensure progress and achievements are tracked against established work plans;

Support and ensure video creation & dissemination

  • Provide guidance and support to government extension functionaries and partner teams on all aspects of video production, dissemination, and data management processes;
  • Provide supportive supervision to ensure that partner and local teams produce videos at Woreda level and disseminate videos at Kebele level using Digital Green approach.

Quality Assurance and Supporting Impact Assessment

  • Ensure quality assurance by gathering data captured through observation sheets while observing video disseminations and video content and technical quality audits at Kebele level;
  • Coordinate field travel for Digital Green team members as well as external stakeholders;
  • Support the implementation of the various monitoring and evaluation methods determined by the Digital Green Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) team.

Support capacity building in partners and local community

  • In partnership with the Training team, support capacity building for the Partners.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Partner for capacity building among local intermediaries through training on video production, dissemination, and data management.

Reporting, Data Management, and Documentation

  • Ensure Partners complete necessary documentation and enter data acquired at Kebele level.
  • Document case studies, best practices, and success stories at Kebele level.
  • Ensure accurate and proper data management processes at Woreda and Kebele levels;
  • Report on challenges and difficulties encountered during program execution to Digital Green Program Team to resolve issues on time.
  • Regularly review Digital Green’s data management system to monitor project deliverables, achievements, and regularly report to the team on activities, milestones and accomplishments
