Environment and Coffee Forest Forum (ECFF) is a local, non-political, non-religious and not-for profit civil society organization, licensed and registered in 2005 and re-registered in 2009 and 2019 in accordance the relevant laws.  The vision of ECFF is a healthy and prosperous society that values, conserves and sustainably uses nature. Our mission is to reverse degradation of natural environment, and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by conserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable and equitable use of renewable natural resources.

Environment and Coffee Forest Forum would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following Positions.

Position 1: Community Development facilitator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate the capacity gap assessment of the existing Participatory Forest Management (PFMs) in collaboration with project team and local governmental and other partners operating in the project woredas;
  • Support in strengthening the existing PFM cooperatives in collaboration with other local partners;
  • Facilitate the support on inclusive Income Generating Activities (IGA) for PFM cooperatives members and community members organized and supported by the project with relevant local governmental partners;
  • Promote sustainable non-farm and off farm livelihood options;
  • Facilitate the strengthening/establishment of model market-oriented nursery sites;
  • Support project activities related to production, value-addition and marketing of bamboo and other non-timber forest products (coffee, honey, spices, gums & resins etc);
  • Facilitate and support in the establishment of women and youth entrepreneurs & enterprises on non-farm and off-farm income generating activities (IGA) and access with local partners;
  • Promote and strengthen community participation in protected areas conservation and management;
  • Closely work with the consortium members, government, community representatives and target communities for the smooth implementation of the project;
  • Organize and facilitate different capacity building training to the target communities and government stakeholders;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the project team leader.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Forestry/ Natural Resource Management or Nature Conservation;
  • At least 6 years and 8 years of direct work experiences in implementation PFM and forest ecosystem/ natural resources management for M.Sc. & for B.Sc. degree holders, respectively;
  • Practical knowledge of nursery management, PFM, community mobilization & community-based conservation practices;
  • Experience of working in the project areas with a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners;
  • Experiences of using GIS and digital data collection tools for monitoring;
  • Experience of working with NGOs and private-sector agencies.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Motorcycle Driving License, and experience of use;
  • Proficiency in local language, Amharic and English languages;
  • Community consultation and PRA skills;
  • Report writing skills in English, especially result-based reporting;
  • Fast learner and willingness to deliver results on time;
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines;
  • Good team spirit & skill sets to connect with the community, partners and other project staff;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to the project kebeles and target villages.

Position 2: Project Accountant

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare monthly account of the Project office that show the expenditure
  • Submit the monthly financial account/ report to the Field Office (Jimma or Mettu) coordinator for approval.
  • Prepare monthly forecast in collaboration with the site coordinator for money transfer to the field office
  • All expenditures to have proper accounting documents (Vouchers) countersigned by the Field Office (Jimma or Mettu) site coordinator
  • Inform and coordinate well in advance when the account needs replenishing
  • Follow the ECFF financial policy, guidance and petty cash system
  • Prepare and disburse the staff payroll, gross pay tax and other deductions, net pay and ensure that staff income tax is paid in time
  • Make sure the deduction of withholding tax from purchase of goods and services as per the tax proclamation and settle same to the tax authority timely
  • Preform other duties assigned by the site coordinator
  • Follow up the proper usage and regular maintenance of the project vehicle and motorbikes, properly check the log sheet, fuel and lubrication
  • Document financial transactions by entering account information and substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
  • Summarize current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports
  • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
  • Guide accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
  • Secure financial information by completing database backups
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Communicate effectively with staffs at all levels and perform other assigned tasks
  • Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options

POSITION:  Project Accountant

DUTY STATION: Jimma or Mettu field Office

DURATION & HOURS: Full Time, and contract for one year, with a possibility of extension

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • MA/ MBA or BA in accounting and finance
  • At least 6 or 10 years of direct work experience for MA/MBA & BA. degree holders, respectively;
  • Strong knowledge of standard and applicable accounting principles and practices
  • Experience of working with diverse team in the operational areas
  • Experience of working with NGOS and Private sector agencies

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Afaan Oromo and English fluency required, fluency in the local languages is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and display evidence of good team player
  • Ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff and clients.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and be comfortable participating both as an effective contributor and a listener in-group setting which include senior staff.
  • Well-organized, resourceful, effective, and efficient at coordinating multiple resources to get things done
  • Have proven track record of successfully working on multiple tasks at once and foresees and plan around obstacles.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to the Project sites

Position 3: Gender Officer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate different capacity building trainings to the ECFF staffs, located at different administrative tiers (Head Quarter, Zone and Woreda project officers) on the different Gender principles, tools and approaches (Eg. GAL, SAA, PPB, PSEA) and its applications.
  • Prepare and implement detail Gender action plan for the targeted operational areas in Oromia and SWEP regions.
  • Strengthen ECFF Gender Equality Policy/ Gender Mainstreaming guideline to respond to Gender inequalities, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV)
  • Closely work with the Gender Focal person of the Consortium organizations namely International Development Enterprise (iDE) and Global Green Growth Initiatives (GGGI) for an effective Project outcome.
  • In coordination with the ECFF Program staffs, Produce and share knowledge, information, best practices, challenges and lesson learnt on Gender issues throughout the project implementation process.
  • Ensure that the Program/Project activities are carried out with cultural sensitivity while promoting gender equality and social inclusion in the project target areas.
  • Organize and carry out advocacy and campaign for greater gender equality in the programs/ Projects
  • Work with the ECFF Program staffs to identify gender related needs, priorities and assist in the design and development of proposals.
  • Perform other assigned tasks

POSITION: Gender Officer

DUTY STATION: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to program/project sites

DURATION & HOURS: Full Time, and contract for one year, with a possibility of extension

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • MA or BA in Gender studies, Social work, Development studies and related social science studies
  • At least 7 or 10 years of direct work experience, including Gender program designing and management in MA/BA respectively;
  • Strong knowledge of standard and applicable Gender tools, approaches and principles
  • Experience of working with diverse team in the operational areas
  • Experience of working with NGOS and Private sector agencies

Position 4: Project Team Leader

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project team leading and management
  • Project management, coordination, monitoring & evaluation, reporting and partnership at the project site level;
  • Day to day follow-up of the project in the two project woredas;
  • Communicate regularly, other implementers and stakeholders such as the government sector offices and bureaus,
  • Regularly review the activity plan, monitor project and activity progress, compile periodical internal reports and present them to head office;
  • Along with project team and relevant partners develop detailed implementation and procurement plan of the project;
  • Conduct monitoring and follow up visit with the project team for proper implementation of the project at zonal, district, community levels;
  • Ensure that resources assigned are properly and efficiently utilized;
  • Willing to handle other responsibilities and tasks apart from the aforementioned ones as per request.

Finance and Administration tasks

  • Support and participate in planning, budgeting and implementation of the project;
  • Supervise and make sure project’s financial reports are delivered on time to ECFF head office (expenses summary, Balance Sheet and Cash flow statements, bank statements, and budget analyses);
  • Participate in reviewing the multiyear project budget in collaboration with the project team and ECFF Finance;
  • Contribute in planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation process of the project;
  • Evaluate weekly staff progress report and monitor achievements and improvements.

Technical leadership

  • Conduct assessment and identify the need for capacity building support of the existing PFMs in the project woredas with relevant local partners;
  • Facilitate and support strengthening of PFM cooperatives in the project woredas;
  • Support the management plan development of the community PFM groups, in collaboration with the relevant regional authorities;
  • Facilitate and support the assessment of inclusive Income Generating Activities (IGA) for PFM cooperatives with relevant local governmental partners;
  • Facilitate the support on identified inclusive Income Generating Activities (IGA) for PFM cooperatives with relevant local governmental partners;
  • Facilitate the promotion and strengthening of community participation in protected areas conservation and management along with local partners;
  • Support promotion on production, value-addition and marketing of bamboo and other non-timber forest products (coffee, honey, spices, gums & resins);
  • Facilitate and support in the establishment of women and youth entrepreneurs & enterprises on non-farm and off-farm income generating activities (IGA) and access for with local partners;
  • Facilitate in organizing and support women and youth enterprises on green energy technology businesses;
  • Facilitate organization of trainings for experts, development agents and farmers at regional and district levels.
  • Communicate lessons, results and best practices to partners and communities;

POSITION: Project team leader

DUTY STATION: ECFF Mettu Field office, with frequent field travel to project sites in Sheka zone.

DURATION & HOURS: Full Time, and contract for one year, with a possibility of extension

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION: The Project team leader will lead all project implementation activities at the project site level, including technical, financial and administrative issues, and will report to head office. S/He will supervise natural resources and livelihoods specialist, woreda community development facilitators, and project accountant. The position requires strong skills in other stakeholders’ engagement, and team and partnership building that positively contributes to the overall implementation of the project that integrates agriculture, conservation, forested landscapes management and livelihoods.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • An M.Sc., or equivalent in Forestry, Natural resources economics, Environmental science; Forest ecology and conservation, Rural development, Forest and environment policy or from related disciplines;
  • Fluent in English. Knowledge of local languages is a plus;
  • Minimum of 12 years’ relevant experience in management, project planning, preferably in the south west eco-region;
  • Experience of working with NGOs and private-sector agencies;
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing PFM, forest conservation projects and livelihood value chains in collaboration with local stakeholders, farmers, communities and business sectors;
  • Excellent management, coordination, training, reporting and communication skills;
  • Track record in project development, management and implementation;
  • Track record with gender-sensitive participatory, governance and inclusion approaches;
  • Track record in project physical and financial planning, project budget and activities monitoring, report writing, team building, coaching and supervision of project site staffs;

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency in English and local languages;
  • Community consultation and PRA skills;
  • Report writing skills in English, especially result-based reporting;
  • Fast learner and willingness to deliver results on time;
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent team player, good team spirit & skill sets to connect with the community, partners and other project staff;
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets;
  • Ability to use and understand GIS and other basic natural resources monitoring software;
  • Flexible in terms of traveling and living conditions.

Position 5: NRM & Livelihood Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the design of appropriate practices and provide technical support in the areas of NRM and Income Generating Activities (IGAs);
  • Closely work with the woreda community development facilitators, government partners and target community to effectively plan and implement the NRM and IGA for an effective project outcome;
  • Support smallholder farmers to produce high value NTFPs that can adapt to the adverse effects of climate;
  • Ensure that all NRM, agricultural and non- agricultural livelihood activities are contributing towards the development of sustainable development;
  • Assist studies, assessments, documentation of best practices/lessons and activities related to NRM and IGAs;
  • Capacity building of project teams on best practices to ensure quality outcomes for all NRM and livelihood activities;
  • Take part in MEL activities mainly baseline survey, assessment, review and evaluation tasks;
  • Actively participate in regular planning, monitoring, review and evaluation of project progress;
  • Develop training manuals and other knowledge products relevant to climate-smart NRM and IGAs;
  • In collaboration with the Project team leader design and organize different capacity building trainings and provide technical backstopping to the communities, farmer groups and woreda government partners;
  • Establish and maintain good and healthy working relationship with consortium partner organizations, and government partners;
  • Monitor and document the project progress, lessons, good experience and impact with the community representatives;
  • Together with the Project staffs prepare, submit monthly, quarterly and annual technical and financial plan to the project team leaders timely and in good quality;
  • Establish and maintain good working relationship with GO and NGO staffs and community members;
  • Ensure that the Program/Project activities are carried out with cultural sensitivity while promoting participatory natural resource management practices;
  • Ensure that the NRM project activities are executed as per the plan and time frame indicated in the project document;
  • Respect and Promote ECFF core values, visions and mission;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the project team leader.

POSITION:  NRM & Livelihood Officer

DUTY STATION: ECFF Mettu Field office, with frequent field travel to project sites in Sheka zone.

DURATION & HOURS: Full Time, and contract for one year, with a possibility of extension

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION: The Natural Resource Management and Livelihood Officer is responsible to work closely with the project technical experts, community development facilitators and project team leader. The job holder is responsible to technically execute NRM & Livelihood activities in the targeted operational woredas as per the standard operating procedure. He / she is also responsible for the proper execution of the project activities in close consultation with the local government partners. The position requires advanced and diversified skills in Natural Resource Management & Livelihood.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • MSc or BSc in Forestry, Natural Resource Management or nature conservation.
  • At least 7 or 10 years relevant experience for MSc or BSc degree holders, respectively;
  • Strong knowledge of standard and applicable experience in rural livelihood development particularly natural resource management practices and tools,
  • Practical experience in providing training on NRM, IGAs to staffs and smallholder farmers;
  • Experience of project planning, implementation, review, monitoring, evaluation and reporting;
  • Experience of working with diverse team in the operational areas
  • Experience of working with NGOS and Private sector agencies

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • English fluency is required; fluency in other local languages is a plus.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION: The Senior Administration and Finance reports to ECFF Administration and Finance Head, and is responsible ensure application financial management principles and administrative procedures for effective implementation of projects. The position holder is responsible to strictly adhere to the financial procedures and principles adopted by the Organization, meet compliance requirements of donors. The position requires experienced and qualified candidates in both administration and financial management.

DUTY STATION: Addis Ababa

DURATION & HOURS: Full Time, and contract for one year, with a possibility of extension.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • MA/MBA or BA in Accounting and finance
  • At least 12 and 15 years of direct work experience, for MA/MBA and BA degree holders, respectively.
  • Collaborative skills including ability to work in team, communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent track record in administration and financial management
  • Experience of working with NGOS and Private sector agencies
