Position 1: Human Rights Officer, Research, Campaign and Advocacy
Purpose of the Job:
Assist in the development and implementation of advocacy and campaign strategies to enhance the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities and older person human rights in Ethiopia.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director to develop advocacy and campaign plan and engagement strategy on priority human rights issues;
- Conduct awareness raising and campaigns on persons with disabilities and older person’ human rights to ensure adherence to national and international protection standards and guidelines;
- Design, implement, monitor and evaluate programs and projects on the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities and older person’ human rights;
- Conduct assessments, identification, and mappings of persons with disabilities and older person’ protection needs;
- Assist in the execution of persons with disabilities and older person’ legislative and policy initiatives;
- Communicate with and influence a range of external stakeholders and advocacy targets including the Government and relevant authorities on the basis of identified gaps for the effective promotion and protection of persons with disabilities and older person’ human rights and to give them voice;
- Support in conducting research and analysis to formulate advocacy briefs and calls for the promotion and protection of the persons with disabilities and older person’ human rights;
- Support in conducting legal review in relation to persons with disabilities and older person to write advocacy and campaign messages and materials for amendment or enactment of laws to ensure compliance with constitutional, international and regional human rights standards;
- Organize and manage advocacy and campaign events; initiate nationwide and regional movement to advocate and campaign for the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities and older person’ human rights, including the ratification and implementation of relevant international and regional human rights instruments;
- Ensure mainstreaming of persons with disabilities and older person’ right as relevant in other EHRC’s advocacy and campaign;
- Coordinate the follow up of the implementation of recommendations, general comments and concluding observations of international and regional treaty bodies that are related to the disability rights and the rights of older person at the national level;
- Support in managing close relationships with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration, including other NHRIs and international and regional human rights networks;
- Support the identification and assistance of capacity building needs of both governmental and non-governmental national stakeholders on children’s rights;
- Participate in discussion forums set in institutions and organizations, including other NHRIs for joint programming, sharing of experience and promising practices, regarding the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities and older person’ rights in their policies and organizational operations;
- Keep the Director informed with regular detailed and accurate reports on progress and challenges in advocating and campaigning for the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities and older person’ rights conducted by the Team;
- Undertake other duties and tasks deemed necessary.
- Duration: Open Contract/Indefinite Period
Salary Range: Gross monthly salary of ETB 22,989.00- ETB 27,380.00 plus ETB 7,200.00 Housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
BA/MA in Law, Human Rights, International Law. Candidates who doesn’t have Law or Human Rights studies but with exceptional practical experience can be considered.
Computer literate;
Knowledge of Amharic is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous;
4 years of relevant experience for BA and 2 years of relevant experience for MA.

Position 2: Documentation Officer
Purpose of the Job:
To preserve the Commission’s financial information and data by safekeeping of permanent records and historically valuable documents
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize archival records and develop classification systems to facilitate access to archival materials;
- Acquire and process new archival materials and maintain records of document;
- Receive, store, issue, and return file catalog cards according to system used;
- Check items in and out of archival and removing outdated items in consultation with the manager;
- Provide reference services and assistance for users needing archival materials;
- Prepare archival records, such as document descriptions, to allow easy access to information;
- Authenticate and appraise historical documents and archival materials;
- Create and maintain accessible, retrievable computer archives and databases, incorporating current advances in electronic information storage technology;
- Preserve records, documents, and objects, copying records to film, disk, or computer formats, as necessary;
- Cover the role of Records and Archive officer role as required
- Duration: Open Contract/Indefinite Period
Salary Range: Gross monthly salary of ETB 7,004.00- ETB 8,108.00 plus ETB 3,600.00 Housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
Diploma/Level IV Certificate in Accounting, Management, Office Administration or related field.
Computer literate;
Knowledge of Amharic is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous;
2 years of relevant experience working on documentation.
Workplace: Addis Ababa
Position 3: Sign Language Interpreter
Purpose of the Job:
Make all communications of the EHRC accessible to Persons with hearing impairments.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation service for EHRC’s audio visual products, press releases and interviews;
- Provide a full range of interpretation services for deaf/hard of hearing/speech impairment participants in any EHRC training, workshop, meetings, or any other events;
- Provide interpretation service for job interviews where a deaf/hard of hearing/speech impairment candidate is participating;
- Provide interpretation service for EHRC clients and complainants with hearing impairment;
- Do appropriate research and adapt interpretations to varying and diverse needs;
- Organize and deliver basic sign language training for EHRC employees;
- Monitor messages delivered through the EHRC Media and Communication Department in terms of accessibility to hearing impaired persons and ensure their accessibility;
- Provide sign language interpretation on monitoring and investigation works of the commission;
- Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.
Duration: One Year Contract with a Possibility of Extension
Salary Range: Gross monthly salary of ETB 9,102.00- ETB 10,537.00 plus ETB 3,600.00 Housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
BA Degree in Ethiopian Sign language and deaf culture, BA Degree in Special need with certificate in sign language. Candidates with other fields of studies with certificate in sign language and exceptional experience can be considered.
Computer literate;
Knowledge of Amharic is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous;
4 years of experience after completion of the sign language Education/training
