Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church Development Commission (EKHCDC) is a local organization operating in Ethiopia since 1974. They are seeking a project cashier for a WASH and FSL project in Medega-Tollaa District, East Hararge Zone, Oromia Regional State, to address the needs of communities affected by drought. The cashier will be responsible for cash payments, management, facilitating authorized payments, and collecting payment documents.

Ethiopian Kale Heywot Church Development Commission would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: Accountant

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performing authorized payments
  • Recording of financial documents of the project
  • Payment settlements
  • Preparing cash registration book and sequential expense record
  • Arranging all reasonable and authorized payments (staff salary, taxes and pension, service charges, procurements and others)
  • Setting properly/filing financial documents
  • Preparing financial report and submitting to project accountant
  • Carrying out other duties assigned by project coordinator and management

Reports to: Project Coordinator

Duty Position and Employment

Duty Position:  Harar town with field visit to Medega-Tolla project intervention Kebeles

No. Position: 1 (one)

Sex: Female/Male

Education background and experience

BA degree from recognized Colleges/universities in accounting two-year experience in accounting works/financial management

Position 2: Accountant

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recording of financial documents of the project
  • Controlling and follow up of expenses as per their allocations in the approved project document and budget transfer notes
  • Preparing check for authorized expenses
  • Preparing cash registration book and sequential expense record
  • Follow up staff suspense settlements and make it in place
  • Checking reasonable expense breakdowns before suspense is processed
  • Checking the fulfillment of supporting documents before suspense settlements,
  • Follow up of bank balance and statement
  • Alerting the project signatories about the current balance at bank
  • Preparing monthly staff salary payroll
  • Arranging all reasonable and authorized payments (staff salary, taxes and pension, service charges, procurements and others)
  • Setting properly/filing financial documents
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Setting legal payments with legal deductions
  • Setting financial statements
  • Preparing financial report and submitting to project coordinator
  • Submitting project expense documents to head office finance department for transfer settlements,
  • Carrying out other duties assigned by project coordinator and management

Position 3: Gender and Economic Empowerment Officer

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly operation plan submit to the project coordinator
  • Provide psycho-social support/trauma healing to the ToTs and follow up the progress.
  • Individual visits to the most traumatized victims and provide counseling services
  • Work to ensure gender balance in the target communities and HH levels
  • Follow up the fair selections of target HHs including female headed to be the targets of the project
  • Facilitate SHG establishment and strengthen their progresses,
  • Follow up their weekly meetings and savings
  • Facilitate series of trainings to SHG members
  • Assist SHGs in their engagements to various business activities and income generating activities/IGAs
  • Facilitate CLA formation
  • Work to link SHGs with financial institutions
  • Searching for market linkages to connect with SHGs/CLAs engaged in businesses
  • Provide directions to the project staff working as community facilitators at project kebele levels
  • Build staff team spirit
  • Any other duties assigned by the project coordinator and project committee

Position 4: FSL/Food Security and Livelihood Officer

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares weekly, monthly and quarterly plans and submits to the Coordinator
  • Engages in project participants’ selection and registration
  • Facilitates farmers training and provides technical and professional supports
  • Conducts farm visits and follow up of the participants
  • Introduces CA to farmers assist them to adopt it in their agricultural practices
  • Facilitates famers field days and experience sharing
  • Facilitate restocking, livestock feed, and health care
  • Develops agricultural input distribution plan in collaboration with the project coordinator and manage it,
  • Contributes to ensure the quality and observance of activities to the technical specifications of the developed livelihood and food security components
  • Ensures that the activities of FSL sector are appropriately planned and properly implemented,
  • Identifies risks and manages properly
  • Document success stories of the project (video, pictures with consents of the participants)
  • Prepares progress and incident reports and submits to the project coordinator
  • Supports the project facilitators and volunteers
  • Work in collaboration with the agriculture development offices of the government at district and kebele levels
  • Assists the project coordinator and performs other sole or team duties assigned by the project coordinator or EKHCDC head office team

Position 5: WASH Officer

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares weekly, monthly and quarterly plans and submits to the Coordinator
  • Participates and facilitate WASH needs assessment and produces reports
  • Identifies water points to be rehabilitated
  • Facilitates drilling activities
  • Sets materials specifications for water points’ rehabilitation
  • Follows up the water point rehabilitation and ensures the quality and quantity of materials in use, and provide technical support,
  • Follows up the water points set up considers people with disabilities.
  • Sets up the hygiene and sanitation promotion activities and monitors its implementation
  • Organizes hygiene and sanitation promotion campaigns to the communities in the project Kebeles
  • Prepares WASH training and provide to the community members in the project kebeles
  • Mobilize and empower the communities in water and sanitation aspects
  • Train public schools’ communities in hygiene and sanitation promotions and sets hand washing facilities
  • Provides technical supports to the communities in traditional water harvesting activities (traditional pond development)
  • Trains the communities in water treatment at HH level
  • Train the water point management committees to take care of the water schemes after the project phase-out.
  • Submits activity reports

WASH Officer Reports to: Project Coordinator

  • Minimum of five-year experience in WASH/water hygiene and sanitation works, especially in rural community setups.

Position 6: WASH and FSL Project Coordinator

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the field office duties and coordinate the project work in both sectors
  • Follow up the project staff monthly plan and achievements,
  • Arrange the selection of the most affected households by the droughts per the selection criteria in cooperation with the community facilitators, the line offices of the local government and community representatives,
  • Arrange the distribution of agricultural inputs and resources to the selected target HHs for their livelihood recoveries
  • Provide agricultural trainings to the target HHs in the selected target kebeles of Medega-Tollaa district to ensure their food securities
  • Innovate the conservation agriculture/CA practices to the selected farmers and apply CA principles
  • Arrange the CA farmers’ field school/demonstrative learning and experience sharing
  • Facilitate the rural women empowerment and gender balance through the formation of Self-Help Groups and their business engagements
  • Facilitate the SHGs/CLAs market linkages and connections
  • Facilitate the SHGs and CLAs linkage to the financial institutions
  • Coordinate and oversee the WASH activities (water-points’ rehabilitation, drilling and borehole setups
  • Arrange and set beneficiary accountability and feedback mechanisms
  • Manage and respond to complaints or report to EKHCDC livelihood development and resilience department 
  • Prepare progress and terminal report and submit to EKHCDC Livelihood development and resilience department and to the line offices of the local government

Position 7: Community Facilitators

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate beneficiary selection and screening
  • Facilitate beneficiary trainings
  • Facilitate monthly agricultural input distributions
  • Facilitate monitoring and evaluation in project kebeles
  • Facilitate complaints handling processes
  • Assist SHGs weekly meeting and saving
  • Assist CA farmers to adopt CA
  • Work closely with other project staffs and committees
  • Update work plan with emergency response officers.
  • Understand and work for the organization mission, vision and objective.
  • Follow-up and visit the target HHs on their farm fields
  • Other duties assigned by project officer and coordinator.

Duty Position:  Hamer district at Selected emergency response project Kebeles ()

No. Position: 3(three)

 Term of Employment: contract in project period

Job Requirements

Education background and experience

  • 10/12 grade + certificate with social work experience, diploma in agriculture or rural development studies or above with related studies
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in social or community-based work
  • Experience in field work with local communities

  • Skill in team work and interpersonal communication
  • Skill in compliance handling, conflict resolution and feedbacks

Position 8: Gender Officer

  • Arranging the selectionof the most affected householdsby the recent armed conflict as per the selection criteria in cooperation with the community facilitators, the line offices of the local government and community representatives,
  • Arrange the distribution of agricultural inputs and resources to the selected target HHs for their livelihood recoveries
  • Provide agricultural trainings to the target HHs in the selected target kebeles of Raya-Alamata district to ensure their food securities
  • Innovate the conservation agriculture/CA practices to the selected farmers and apply CA principles
  • Arrange the CA farmers’ field school/demonstrative learnings and experience sharing
  • Facilitate the rural women empowerment and gender balance through the formation of Self-Help Groupsand their business engagements
  • Facilitate the SHGs/CLAs market linkages and connections
  • Facilitate the SHGs and CLAs linkage to the financial institutions
