It initially provided humanitarian services to wounded soldiers and civilians. In September of that year, ERCS became a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. ERCS is an independent humanitarian organization that operates alongside the government. It was established and recognized by law through a National Charter in 1947, with the latest revision in 1999. The current Charter was endorsed by the Parliament in January 2018.
Ethiopian Red Cross Society would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following position.
Position 1: DVM Officer I
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides technical and expertise assistance in planning DVM activities of the Regional Branch;
- Provides technical and expertise backup to zonal and woreda branches on DVM management, the dissemination of the Geneva Conventions, Fundamental Principles of the Movement and International Humanitarian Law and expansion of volunteerism;
- Monitors and evaluates the activities of raising and governing membership and voluntarism for the causes of the Movement, keeping a well-organized and updated database of members and volunteers of the Regional Branch;
- Facilitates, coordinates and follows up training, organizing and deploying volunteers for rescue work, social welfare and other mandated fields of activity of the Society delegated to the Regional Branch;
- Initiates membership and volunteer management systems to raise the quality of membership for improved productivity and self-sustenance;
- Strengthens capacity of ERCS volunteers and pertinent staff at zonal and woreda levels to distribute materials and communicate more effectively on values and principles of the Movement, the Geneva Conventions and International Humanitarian Laws to target audiences;
- Ensures that adequate awareness is created in the Regional Branch towards the respect and the protective use of the Emblem, Fundamental Principles of the Movement, International Humanitarian Law, the Geneva Convention and mandates of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society;
- Facilitates and coordinates the recruitment, development, retention and mobilization of a volunteer force of the Regional Branch in responding to the humanitarian needs of vulnerable communities;
- Strengthens the dissemination capacities of the zonal and woreda branches through training and provision of audiovisual and printing materials;
- Initiates policy ideas for dissemination, volunteers and membership drive;
- Organizes, and administers necessary DVM training of trainers of the Regional Branch; ensures that such capacity building training is cascaded as far down to grass levels of the Society’s humanitarian services, and ensures that the intended impacts are realized through proper monitoring, evaluation and reporting;
- Encourages zonal and woreda branches to organize dissemination sessions to different target groups and provides the necessary support;
- Observe and evaluate the effectiveness of existing volunteer services of the Regional Branch;
- Organizes public gatherings to disseminate the ideals and principles of IRC/Crescent Movement at the regional level;
- Keeps and continuously updates the regional database of members and volunteers and reports on statuses of the same to the National Secretariat;
- Performs other DVM-related duties and responsibilities of the Regional Branch as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Specification
Second/First degree in Pedagogical Science/Social Work/ Sociology/ Social Anthropology/ Social Psychology/ Applied Psychology/ Public Administration/ Business Administration/ Regional and Local Development Studies/Development Studies/ Management / Political Science & International Relations and 4/6 years’ relevant work experience.
Other skills and competencies
- Training in communication, Advocacy, Community Mobilization, Training Trainers Training (TOT), and Volunteers Management is an advantage
- High-level communication, Relationship management skills, working with the community, Volunteers
