The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131 District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee and 5871 Kebele Red Cross committees.
ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.
Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.
Position 1: Accountant
Key performance Areas
- Checks payment requests against adequate budget coverage and verifies correctness of arithmetic accuracy for approval;
- Follows up on the transfer or increment of budget and the regular and project budget execution;
- Checks and verifies payment requests against availability of budget and presents same to the senior accountant for further treatment;
- Reconciles accounts with bank statements; Prepares monthly statements of bank reconciliation and adjusting entries;
- Follows up timely collection of receivables and payments of liabilities and other government obligations, reports on long outstanding receivables;
- Follows up any deductions from employees’ salaries are paid to concerned parties in accordance with their prior commitments or court decisions; Verifies and registers receivable/revenue and disbursement accounts.
- Follows up and registers provident/pension funds of employees; ensures timely deposit and withdrawal;
- Facilitates payments of accumulated provident fund to employees terminating employment contract;
- Collects bank statements on provident fund and makes the necessary adjustments and reconciles disparities and notifies employees; Manages the movement and utilization of cash;
- Follows up and ensures that receiving and paying documents are collected from property administration, banks and other work units in due course;
- Verifies correctness, completeness and appropriateness of accounting documents transmitted from branch offices and receives/collects same for further treatment;

Position 2: Senior Dissemination and Communication Expert
Key performance Areas
- Directly accountable for humanitarian diplomacy and communication and shall have the following major functional duties.
- Participates and assists to plan, organize and communicate the dissemination and communication activities of the Society; Assists to prepare new strategies, guidelines and tools or update existing’s on dissemination and communication activities of the society;
- Supports in coordinating, representing the Society in dealings with press, radio, television and other publicity and social media engagements; Attends meetings and social functions and events, and uses skill in communication(PR) techniques to obtain desired visibility;
- Prepares standard dissemination and communications aid materials, visuals, and guides for wider usage within the ERCS; Advises and proposes best suited communication and disseminations activities to address issues or problems
- Prepares and organizes the documentations of the Society’s, emergency and development activities, programs, projects and other communications matters and ensures that such documentations are made on video, films, movies, and photographs, print materials and publications as appropriate; manages the audio visual documentation of the Society;
- Undertakes a planned, systematic training and awareness dissemination of the RCRC history, fundamental principles, ERCS activities, correct use of the emblems to internal and external stakeholders, at national and branch level;
- Develops and maintains media relations to ensure visibility and /or coverage of the work of the Society by the media; builds up contacts with media representatives and partner organizations;
- Manages the supply, handling and distribution of audiovisual equipment, teaching materials/printing and materials needed for publicizing and documentation of the Society’s activities; and follows up the evaluation and proper and effective utilization of same;
- Boosts and maintains the external visibility of the Society through publicizing its activities in various media and providing feedback from the public to service providers;
- Strengthens communication, disseminations and information sharing for enhancing synergized organizational processes within the Society and for external visibility and accountability;
- Enhances stakeholders’ recognition of the Society as lead agency in humanitarian work through which resources can more effectively be channeled to serve the needy;
- Supports documentation, publication and communication of the Society’s objectives, principles, core values and activities for increased visibility, corporate image, and greater access to volunteers and others; Follow up, collect and compile reports and feed backs on communication and dissemination;
- Continuously assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of the Society’s nationwide communication and dissemination programs and looks for ways of their improvement so as to bring about positive changes;
- Reviews and selects communication material compiled and submitted by the subordinate staff of the work unit in preparation for documentation and publicity;
- Represents the Society in dealings with press, radio, television and other publicity media, attends meetings and social functions and events, and uses skill in communication techniques to obtain desired visibility when assigned by superior;
- Collects planned feedbacks, monitors various media, prepares responses to protect the image of the society; as well us conducts preliminary study and research for the betterment of the communication and partnership activities and report regularly on these activities to the superior;
- Cooperates with and regularly sends news to the international counterparts for further publicity and shares experience with other sister national societies; Organizes and stages special social forums, events, days, anniversaries and field visits, that further enhance the Society’s goodwill and favorable publicity;
- As per the general directions given to her/him produces press releases and news reports to the media houses as part of media relations so that media houses support ERCS activities through complementary space, advertising space and air time; Constantly updates the Society’s website and posts on daily bases the social media and ensures that vital documents are accessed;

Position 3: Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting Senior Expert
Key performance Areas
- Collaborate with head planning, monitoring, evaluation reporting and learning in the preparation of Plans and coordination of planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning and CEA activities of the National Society;
- Actively takes part in the development, adoption and contextualization of Standard Operations Procedures and operational guidelines on Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and program/project quality assurance frameworks such as Community Engagement and Accountability and other overseas their implementation;
- Take part and plays a key role in coordinating strategic plan preparation & review; Coordinate and provide technical support to HQ work units and branches on Annual Operational Plan preparation;
- Ensure the quality of Annual Operational Plan prepared by HQ work units and branches and ensure their vertical and horizontal integration;
- In close collaboration and coordination with program responsible work units at HQ annually compile Annual Operational Plan, consolidated budget and periodic reports of the NS;
- Takes part in Project Planning Process; Works with Program/Project Coordinators in the preparation of Program/Project Monitoring and Evaluation Plan;
- Collect, document, incorporate key issues from Project Field Monitoring Reports in to the NS Periodic reports and disseminate for enhancement of organizational learning;
- Prepare reporting time table and monitor timely preparation and submission of reports to internal and external stakeholders; lead, coordinate and provide technical support to HQ work units and branches on periodic report preparation;
- In close collaboration and coordination with program responsible work units at HQ compile periodic reports of the NS; In close collaboration and coordination with responsible work units at HQ and branches organize periodic program review sessions to review the progress of the Program Plan;
- Coordinate a joint field monitoring visits, prepare their reports and disseminate the findings to all relevant stakeholders; Develop Internal and joint project evaluations’ TOR based on their M&E plan and upon the approval of the internal/joint evaluation TOR organize Evaluation steering team, Evaluation team and undertake the evaluation;
- Prepare and document evaluation reports and disseminate for relevant stakeholders; Assist Management Action Plan preparation as a result of evaluation reports and follows-up their implementation;
- Assure the quality of TORs prepared for external evaluations, inception and final reports thereof;
- Organize and coordinate relief items post distribution monitoring of for distributions directly undertaken by the HQ;
- Organize community of practices[1], develop wikis and blogs in major program thematic areas to enhance learning in the NS;
- Work to support planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning activities with up to date technologies;
- Set out how CEA activities and approaches will be implemented as part of ensuring the quality of Programs/Projects; Integrate CEA into M&E processes for Programs/Projects, ensure communities are consulted and feedback is regularly collected and documented to understand levels of satisfaction with the Programs/Projects;
- Deliver PMEL & CEA training to staffs, management and volunteers in collaboration with the capacity building work unit; Reports periodically its performance to planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning director;

- Training on Community Engagement and Accountability
- Training on Project Management;
- Training on Mobile & remote Data Collection systems such as Kobo Toolbox, ODK, Magpi, Commacare – Training on Microsoft Office package especially advanced skill on Microsoft Excel;
- Training on Analytical tools such as SPSS, Stata;
- Monitoring and evaluation.
