Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following Positions.

Position 1: Internship

The tasks of the internship 

Support the School FLR Engagement 

  • Support the project technical team and the school community in the planning, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Carry out tasks as per the plan under the supervision of the technical team in charge.
  • Make proper documentation and report to the technical team. 

Support in data collection and documentation 

  • Assist the development of data and information collection templates and make Amharic translations whenever needed.
  • Collect recurrent project data as per agreed template and make a proper document.
  • Support the partner in collecting georeferenced data and compiling then a GIS platform

Support the team in event organization, facilitation and coordination

  • Support in taking attendances and discussion minutes during trainings and events.
  • Support the evaluation of trainings by the training participants.
  • Support in some logistics arrangement as per the need from the technical and Admin & finance team.
  • Support in availing and arranging training materials.
  • Communication and facilitate with partners and service providers.

Support bridging communication  

  • Support in Amharic translations of verbal communication during events whenever needed.
  • Take over responsibilities of the team in Arbaminch during their absence.
  • Support the team with drafting communication products.  

To work with the Programme according to needs and interests

  • To support the technical team in any other project assignment as per need.
  • To contribute for the overall success of the project.

Job Requirements

Required qualifications, competencies, and experience.

Qualifications:

In order to qualify for an internship, applicants must be currently enrolled at a college university and be on their final year or have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of application.

Work Experience: Fresh graduate (Zero years)

The candidate must have at least a bachelor in Forestry; Natural resource management, Agriculture or Rural Development with good knowledge and skill of GIS

Other knowledge, additional competencies:

  • Previous involvement in school clubs or experience in working with schools is an asset.
  • Very good Amharic and English language skill verbal and written. 
  • Interest in forest landscape restoration.
  • Dedication to work in development cooperation.
  • Stress tolerant and open minded

Duty station: Arba Minch

Position 2: Economic Policy Advisor

A. Responsibilities

The advisor is responsible for:

  • Ensuring professional advisory services regarding especially the social and legal dimension of sustainability, topics such as supply chain due diligence regulations, gender, child labor, inclusion and living income
  • Ensuring cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with all project stakeholders, assisting with PR work and cooperating with local communities, relevant organisations, non-governmental agencies and individuals in the project/ programme environment and with other projects to improve and maintain good working relationships
  • Developing, managing and monitoring contracts
  • Ensuring knowledge transfer and drawing up reports and presentation documents
  • Dealing with the design, preparing and implementation of workshops and other events on issue related to the project
  • Representing GIZ and the SUVASE project at local and national level

Tasks

The advisor is responsible for:

  • Facilitating the process of the development of policy and regulation recommendations regarding sustainable supply chains (e.g. EU-regulation on deforestation-free products etc.) and advising as well cooperating with a broad range of actors and partner institutions (governmental, private sector and civil society representatives)
  • Providing professional advisory and managing activities on various agricultural supply chain topics such supply chain due diligence regulations, gender, child labor, inclusion and living income to, coordinating, and cooperating closely within GIZ and external relevant stakeholders
  • Preparing and managing contracts and grants with external service providers and partners according to the rules and regulations of GIZ and contribute to overall project management duties
  • Coordinating with and supplementing the communication, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, reporting and administrative activities
  • Assisting the project management and steering of the overall project.

Required qualifications, competences, and experience

Qualifications

Masters/MSc in political science, social science or another area that is related to the project objective

Professional Experience:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a comparable position
  • At least 5 years of experience in a political advisory position
  • At least 3 years of experience in coordinating and facilitating (high-level) political processes
  • At least 3 years of experience in project management and managing contracts
  • At least 3 years of experience in agricultural supply chains, coffee supply chain will be considered as an advantage
  • At least 3 years of experience in at least one of the topics: child labour, inclusion and living income
  • At least 3 years of experience in development cooperation projects and working in international teams
  • At least 3 years of experience in communication and knowledge management

Other Knowledge, additional competencies:

  • Excellent in English (spoken and written) and fluent in Amharic
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Demonstrated ability to work in intercultural teams and settings; as well as to adjust work plan and priorities rapidly in response to urgent needs and external opportunities
  • Proactive, reliable, and highly motivated working attitude and diplomatic skills and context sensitivity, gender competence
  • Is passionate about creating a positive impact and believes in the power of the private sector
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management

Position 3: Driver

General responsibilities:

  • The driver shall provide reliable and safe driving services with ensuring high accuracy of work and demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with the people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services by driving project vehicle for the transportation of authorized personnel, delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items when required.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logbook, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Occasionally field trips of several days to remote areas during weekend and/or after business hours.
  • Maintain logbook & report private use of vehicle by staffs for settlement.
  • Purchase of good and services for the office as recommended by procurement and contracting assistant.
  • Keep records on fuel consumption of all CPS cars.
  • Delivery of letters, messages, payments or other documents.
  • Follow upon safety of CPS office equipment and CPS office vehicles.
  • Proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, checking of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  • Follow up on insurance processes and annual inspection for all CPS cars.
  • Follow up on maintenance of all CPS vehicles.

Vehicle registration

  • Ensure vehicle registration as directed & forward registration and insurance papers to the responsible CPS/IDP programe staff.
  • Document completed registrations & monitors the status of vehicle registration (official & private vehicles)
  • Arrange for safe transfer/transport of goods to their destination & notify respective departments of delivery location & time.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of 12th Grade
  • 3rd degree driving license.
  • First aid knowledge desirable

Professional experience:

  • 3 years of working experience specifically in South of Ethiopia.
  • Defensive driving

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Good command of English and Amharic is obligatory.
  • Knowledge of Sidama and Oromo languages would be an asset.

Position 4: Internship Only for female applicants

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Knowledge in the area of education (best Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and/or private sector development.
  • Experience in research.
  • Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
  • Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office
  • Has an eye for detail.
  • High degree of initiative, efficiency, integrity and accountability.
  • High interest in self-development, intellectual curiosity and has the capacity of thinking outside the box
  • Ability to work alone as well as in a team.
  • Highly motivated

Position 5: Internship

In order to measure the employment effects of the project, a tracer study should be conducted that provides information about the jobs created through the project. The assignment of the intern will be mainly related to the implementation of the employment effect survey and include a. o. the following tasks:

  • Quality assurance for internal data (e. g. merge and verify trainee list)
  • Data collection and conduct of interviews.
  • Data processing (compile and enter data into excel database)

Furthermore, the responsibilities of the intern will include support of the day-to-day business, such as

  • Provide continuous support to the program management unit.
  • Support in event organization (workshops, trainings and (online) meetings)

Qualifications:

Higher education degree (BA or MA) in educational, social, or political science, psychology, Business and Management or related fields.

Professional experience:

 No professional experience is required(Fresh graduate)

Other knowledge, additional competencies:

  • Knowledge in the area of education (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and /or private sector development.
  • Experience in data collection.
  • Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
  • Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office.
  • High interest in self-development and intellectual curiosity.
  • Highly motivated
