Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: Soil & Water Conservation (SWC) Engineer (Specialist)

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in soil and water conservation engineering, Agricultural Engineering  or, Civil engineering;

Professional experience

5 years practical field experience of working with soil conservation and water resources management in arid and semi-arid lowlands,

Proven ability of study, design and construction of context-specific soil and water conservation measures in lowland areas like water spreading weirs;

Experience with pastoral and/ or agro-pastoral communities in arid and semi-arid lowlands, preferably in Afar, Oromia, SNNP or Somali region;

Understanding of impacts of environmental degradation and alternative natural resource management approaches.

Experience in working with governmental structures, international organizations, NGOs and/or research institutes.

Other knowledge, additional competencies

High level of motivation, proactivity, self-discipline, integrity and accountability.

Readiness to work in rural lowland circumstances and frequent travel to project sites.

Very good English and Amharic language skills

Computer skills in software application AutoCAD, MS-Office.Application procedure:

Position 2: Accounting Specialist (SNNPR)

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

University degree (BA) in Accounting, Business Management or equivalent.

Professional experience

  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in related field
  • Good knowledge of standard computer application such as MS Office application, WINPACCS, Peachtree, IFSR, .

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Knowledge of GIZ rules & regulations and systems is a plus
  • Proven knowledge of English and Amharic languages, written and spoken.
  • Trustworthiness and ability to maintaining strict confidentiality and observing data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize several tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently, unsupervised and as part of a multicultural and international team

Workplace: Jinka, SNNPR

Position 3: Accounting Specialist (Oromia)

Job Requirements

Qualifications

University degree (BA) in Accounting, Business Management or equivalent.

Professional experience

Minimum of 5 years professional experience in related field

Other knowledge, additional competencies

Position 4: Rural Development Advisor

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Rural Development, Agricultural Economics, Natural resources Management, Agricultural Engineering,Anthropology or related field of study.;

Professional experience

  • 5 years practical field experience of working with rural development in arid and semi-arid lowlands,
  • Excellent technical and working knowledge in pastoral sectors and drylands of Ethiopia outlined above; among these, knowledge and experience in pastoral/Agropastoral and community development is required.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills in a range of issues of relevance to dry lands and rural development and integrated soil and water conservation approaches in collaboration with government services and local communities.
  • Track record of commitment to teamwork and ability to interact effectively and collegially with peers at all levels.
  • Proven ability of socio-economic development in lowland areas like soil and water conservation, natural resources management, l
  • Experience with pastoral and/ or agro-pastoral communities in arid and semi-arid lowlands, preferably in Afar, Oromia, SNNP or Somali region; Understanding of impacts of environmental degradation and alternative natural resource management approaches.
  • Experience in applying Community Based Participatory Watershed Development guidelines for planning integrated watershed development

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • High level of motivation, proactivity, self-discipline, integrity and accountability.
  • Readiness to work in rural lowland circumstances and frequent travel to project sites;
  • Very good English, Oromiffa and Amharic language skills. Other additional local languages in the surrounding are preferable
  • Very good working knowledge of information and communication technologies incl. MS Office

Position 6: Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • MSC/ bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, Social Science, Statistics with advanced training on monitoring and evaluation topics
  • Excellent knowledge of English, Amharic and/or any other local language (written and spoken).
  • Excellent working knowledge of standard computer applications and proven experience of computer statistical packages and/ data analysis software (Stata and or SPSS)

Professional experience

  • A minimum of 8 years‟ experience in a similar position involving data collection, documentation and reporting
  • Experience in working for GIZ projects and familiarity with GIZ’s rules and regulations

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Demonstrable experience in producing good quality documents for different audiences and managing information management systems.
  • Hand on experience in data processing and management of large-scale surveys
  • Strong experience in conducting surveys and assessment
  • Excellent knowledge of the GIZ rules and regulations and of GIZ project cycle management.
  • Familiarity on topics related to the fields of climate smart agriculture, SLM, capacity building and community empowerment
  • Demonstrated advisory, cooperation and negotiation skills
  • experience in result driven and resource-oriented way of working
  • ability to communicate adequately to different target groups
  • Ability to adapt quickly and proactively to changing conditions
  • Willingness to learn independently and proactively

Position 8: Advisor ICT and Digitalization

Required qualifications, competencies, and experience

Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Digitalization, Computer Science, IT, or related fields

Professional experience

  • 7 years of professional experience as a trainer, researcher, and system developer with at least 2 years of professional experience in a comparable position
  • Experience working in the digital agricultural extension.

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Team player with a focus on jointly achieved results.
  • Always ready to achieve high standards of work as documented through steady professional growth.
  • Excellent integrity, confidentiality, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in the development of blended learning platforms
  • In-depth practical experience (worked on several full-stack projects for clients)
  • Training delivery experience and facilitation skill
  • Good knowledge and experience in the digital agricultural value chains
  • Experience in developing and building good working relationships with and within government organizations, development organizations as well as with other public and private institutions.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Amharic languages, written and spoken
  • Ability to organize and prioritize several tasks at the same time
  • Ability to work independently, unsupervised, and as part of a multicultural and international team.

Position 9: Communication and PR Specialist

Required qualifications, competencies, and experience.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or any related field.
  • Postgraduate degree (MA, MBA or PhD degree) in above fields will be an asset.

Professional experience:

  • At least 3-5 years professional experience in a comparable position.
  • Experience in strategic communication planning, implementation, budgeting and monitoring
  • Proven experience in content development, writing and/or editorial work.
  • Experience supervising the production and quality of communication products and tools.
  • Experience in press management and monitoring
  • Knowledge of event management
  • Basic knowledge of design and video editing
  • Basic knowledge of development policy issues
  • Experience working in an international & intercultural context/organization.
  • First-hand experience in dealing with political decision-makers, civil society, scientific institutions and in the agricultural/rural development/biodiversity sector.
  • Experience with integrating gender and inclusion considerations into communication processes.

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Proven knowledge of English and Amharic language, written and spoken. Knowledge of Afaan Oromo or Sidama is an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of ICT and computer applications (e.g., MS Office);
  • Experience in designing maps using GIS or other software
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills as well as self-reliant, cooperative and innovative working style.
  • Good problem-solving skills and strong result oriented.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in an international team, take initiative and manage activities concurrently.
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.
  • Trustworthiness and ability to maintaining strict confidentiality and observing data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of GIZ rules, regulations and systems is an asset.
