Internews would like to invite qualified and interested job seekers to apply for the following different vacant position.

Position 1: – Program Assistant

Position Overview:

The Project assistant will provide administrative, programmatic and operational support to the Project Director and the VIP project team in country.

Description of main duties and responsibilities:

Administration and Logistical Support

  • Coordinate travel logistics assist with hotel bookings, taxis, visas etc and arrange accommodations
  • for Internews in country activities.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for regional meetings and trainings in Addis Ababa and
  • various parts of the country.
  • Request quotes prepare documentation for approval by relevant budget authority & place orders.
  • In consultation with the Regional Office, ensure compliance with Internews procurement policy; prepare Procurement Request forms to obtain Purchase Orders (PO)
  • Facilitate vendor payment by cash, cheque, or wire
  • Coordinate periodic meetings with the project trainers and other staff members
  • Provide correspondence and admin support for in-country (Ethiopia) staff as
  • Works with HR departments on Business World staff entries and
  • Works with HQ HR Dept to draft PSCs and liaise with HR for all related
  • Review PSC invoices and activity reports before

Program Support:

  • Support the Project Director with any programmatic needs in the country especially during trainings and meetings
  • Prepare signing sheets and payment documents for activities
  • Support Monitoring and Evaluation in country for example administering pre- and post- tests during trainings, ensuring all data is collected for activities.
  • Process and analyze data collected from participants of the various trainings to measure achievements against the performance
  • Support project monthly reporting, progress reporting, project mid-term review and final
  • In collaboration with Subgrants officer, Identify areas where technical support to project partners is

Job Requirement

  • BA Degree in Social Science, communications, or a related field.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in admin and programs support.
  • Experience in organizing events, logistics, planning, activity budgeting and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other MS tools

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position 2: – Media Advisor

Position Overview:

The Media Advisor will lead training and mentoring of community radio stations and campus radios in their content production under Conflict- and gender-sensitive journalism and radio training for community and campus radio stations. He/she will also lead on Radio content production on peace-related thematic issues, monitor the work of Subgrant under the project, and participate in all partners’ activities.

Description of main duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a keen understanding of challenges and issues facing the media especially community media in Ethiopia.
  • Lead the training of media personnel working at community and campus radio stations on various topics including, but not limited to, basic journalism, conflict-sensitive journalism, gender-sensitive journalism and other topics identified by VIP project.
  • Support community and campus radio stations in the production of audio contents related to peace building and social cohesion.
  • support media trainers and consultants to deliver high quality trainings and mentoring (online and offline) in strategic communications, multi-media campaign planning and delivery, and social media.
  • Provide mentorship support to community and campus radio stations on topic selection content production, editing and other aspects of radio program production as needed.
  • Provide technical support to sub-grantees and partners on identification, selection and training of CSOs.
  • Work closely with project partners and sub-grantees on developing and initiating feedback mechanisms
  • Support the establishment and running of listening groups at implementing regions.
  • Monitor the implementation of activities by sub-contractors and sub-grantees and provide technical support whenever needed.
  • Follow up the timely production of audio content by community radio stations and campus radios as stipulated in the workplan.
  • Work closely with project partner and other sub-contractors to design, plan and implement and national media campaign.
  • Monitor and track the progress of the national media campaign; gather updates and reports from sub-contractors.
  • Provide on-going support for implementors of the national media campaign

Job Requirement

  • Master’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in communication, journalism, media projects management, training of media professionals is a must.
  • Experience in designing and delivering trainings on journalism, media, communication, and community engagement is desired.
  • Experience as a manager or trainer with professional capacity-building programs for journalists and media outlets and strong knowledge of new media preferred.
  • Experience in designing and implementing media campaigns and community engagement activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and multi-media production software/tools

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position 3: – Subgrants Officer

Position Overview:

The Sub-grant Officer will manage day to day administration of sub-grants and service contracts, including tracking budgets, payments, compliance, and modifications, build capacity of subgrantees in various areas including financial management and reporting, ensuring all procedures are followed and consult with Internews Head Quarters for information or financial issues regarding partners.

Description of main duties and responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with the Project Director in drawing up workplans of sub-grantees of VIP project in Ethiopia.
  • Manage a portfolio of sub-grants by VIP project, including developing budgets, tracking expenditures, and submitting reports.
  • Conduct subgrant budget analysis and review budgets for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to internal financial requirements.
  • Conduct needs assessments and organizational capacity assessments of subrecipients, whenever needed.
  • Provide monitoring and oversight on subgrants, including financial tracking and progress toward deliverables.
  • Maintain subrecipients’ activity tracking schedules for project development, field reports, site visits, and follow-up communications with funders.
  • Ensures the procurement policy is strictly adhered to and supports the procurement of supplies for the office.
  • Work closely with the regional finance team to support the project’s financial systems, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Elaborate monthly financial statements incl. bank and petty cash reconciliation for submission to regional office and Internews Europe.
  • Ensure timely payment of suppliers and service providers subject to appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant procurement instructions and ensure documentation of relevant procurement processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Internews and European Commission rules and regulations

Job Requirement

  • At least 2 to 3 years of grants coordination/monitoring experience, strong EU grant management experience preferred.
  • University degree in Project Management, Business administration, or related field
  • Excellent report writing, oral and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in project narrative reporting, analytic and financial management skills.
  • Understanding of and experience with the administration of European Union funded grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and procurement.
  • Excellent Information technology skills (including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and project management systems).
  • Ability to multi-task and proven organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience with administrative systems of international NGOs required.
  • Skilled in cooperative resolution of problems.
  • Practical experience in establishing and operating participatory training programs.
  • Must be self-reliant, resourceful, good problem-solver, good humored, and flexible.
  • Ability to travel within and spend extended time in the field, with limited facilities, often under harsh conditions.
  • Ethiopian nationality required.
