 Position 1: Assistant IT Coordinator & Librarian

Job Summary

The Assistant IT Coordinator & Librarian will support the IT Coordinator & Librarian in running the school library and providing ICT support to students, teachers, parents, management staff, and other community members. He/She will contribute to management, maintenance, and development of all IT equipment and the provision of technical advice and support for IT related activities.

The Assistant IT Coordinator & Librarian will:

  • Coordinate a variety of activities for the IT Coordinator & Librarian.
  • Respond to a wide variety of concerns and/or complaints to resolve technical problems, provide information and/or refer to appropriate personnel / supervisor.
  • Acts as a first point of contact for students visiting the Library and IT Lab to coordinate their visit, assisting them with finding the appropriate information / tools.
  • Support the aims and ethos of the school as identified in the staff handbook.
  • Promote and model good relationships with students, parents, and community members.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress code, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Participate in training and take a lead in her/his own professional development.
  • Participate in the School’s staff appraisal process.

Key roles & responsibilities:

  • Library Management
  • Collect and catalog library resources including books, films, and publications.
  • Help students, teachers, and other community members locate reference and leisure reading materials.
  • Maintain library records on databases (such as Librarika) and ensure it is updated.
  • Perform regular audits of the information and inventory on file.
  • Educate students and staff on how to properly search for information using the library databases.
  • Oversee the check-out process for books and other resource materials.
  • Organize and host book sales, author signings, and other reading events.
  • Clarify the use of library amenities and provide information about library policies.
  • Make sure the library meets the needs of precise groups of users including students who have special educational needs.
  • Place orders of relevant resources, books, and audio-video materials based on students and teacher’s needs.
  • Provide progress reports to supervisor.

Technical IT Support & Administration

  • Assist in basic diagnostic routines. Help install new software and hardware.
  • Secure, security code and ensure the safe set up of new equipment.
  • Set up the school computer lab, including repairing equipment that is non-functional, performing upgrades to desktops and laptops, installing software, networking all devices, recommending purchases of needed hardware or software, and installing virus protection software.
  • Run regular checks on network and data security.
  • Set up equipment such as laptops, projectors, iPads, sound systems and other specialist ICT equipment, ensuring that systems are ready for use and operating correctly.
  • Install hardware and resources to work areas and classrooms as required.
  • Assist in creating a structured approach to rolling out new hardware or software, including procurement, testing.
  • Detects, diagnoses and resolves most PC, printer and peripheral device faults.
  • Develop a maintenance schedule for all printers, computer hardware, software and networks, and ensure that it is followed.
  • Contribute to updates of the school’s website.
  • Provide assistance in implementing training programs and workshops for staff to become more comfortable and familiar with using technology in class planning, teaching and use of the portal.
  • Identify and communicate on opportunities to improve and update software and systems.
  • Support the IT Coordinator and Librarian in maintaining the school portal – this will be the primary system used for teachers to enter and track student assignments and grading, communicate with parents, etc.
  • Maintain Office 365 accounts and implement where appropriate.
  • Assist in planning and implementing changes to elements of the ICT service as required.
  • Assist in routine safety checks, including electrical tests, are carried out and appropriate records maintained.
  • Ensure the safe disposal of obsolete equipment, used consumables and waste materials in line with recognized procedures and legal requirements.
  • Support in maintaining an up‐to‐date inventory of ICT software and licenses in school.
  • Invigilate examinations and tests as required.
  • Take on any other related duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

Reports to: IT Coordinator & Librarian

Coordinates with: Team Leaders, Teachers, Admissions Officer, Learning Support Team

Working Hours: Monday – Thursday (7:30 am – 4:30 pm) and Fridays (from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm).

Education:

BSc/MSc in Computer Science and other related fields.

Work Experience:

Minimum 3 – 4 years of relevant experience

Workplace: Addis Ababa

Position 2: Learning Support Assistant / Special Needs Education professional

Job Summary

Fully embrace our school’s mission, vision, and values and promote them to students, staff, other faculty, parents, and members of the outside community. To manage, develop and to take direct responsibility for the provision of learning support in the school.

Key Activities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Conduct educational observations evaluations.
  • Develop and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s) for students  in cooperation with class teachers, parents and the school counselor (where appropriate).
  • Provide in-class support and individual or small group lessons for students with different educational needs.
  • Support and train class teachers to differentiate work and activities in the general classroom for students with different educational needs.
  • Model and support the school’s approach to rigorous academic instruction combined with instilling and reinforcing behaviors and values that lead to academic and life success
  • Be part of a team developing, training and teaching the social and emotional learning curriculum.

Improvement Plan and Policies

  • Input into the revision of the strategic plan and use the plan for guidance on development of the learning support program.
  • Develop and manage the learning support policy and procedure in close cooperation with senior leadership and inform teachers of any changes or developments.
  • Implement the day-to-day operation of Learning Support Policy and Procedures.
  • Implement the child protection policy and be a member of the child protection team.

Recording and Assessment

  • Tracking progress and maintaining records of students in the Learning Support program.
  • Evaluating progress of students on IEPs

Leadership

  • To be one of the points of contact for parental queries and enquiries about additional support needs matters in the school.  To encourage and foster good lines of communication with parents in relation to additional support needs.
  • Liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when transferring pupils with additional support needs.
  • Manage special needs education support students personal assistant staff to ensure they work effectively with their designated students with different needs.
  • Develop links with other SEN professionals, schools and agencies for possible referral and advice.
  • Give advice to the Admissions Officer about enrollment of new pupils with special learning needs.
  • Identify resources needed to meet the needs of pupils with additional support needs.

Other duties

  • To attend Instructional Leadership meetings and other staff meetings and briefings etc and keep colleagues informed of additional support needs matters.
  • Participate in learning communities to plan, problem solve, and support one another on an ongoing basis
  • Implement the school values, discipline procedures and school culture initiatives
  • Collaborate with other members of the school’s leadership team to create and sustain programs for students and families that recognize and celebrate achievement and continuous progress

Reports to: Learning Support Associate

Coordinates with: Team Leaders, Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Counselors

Position 3: Learning Support Associate / Special Needs Education Professional

Job Summary

Kelem International School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Learning Support Associate. As a Learning Support Associate, you will play a vital role in ensuring the successful implementation of our curriculum and providing support to our faculty members. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in childcare and special needs education to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the curriculum alignment from Kindergarten to Grade 10, ensuring that the instructional materials and strategies are effectively aligned with the school’s goals and objectives.
  • Provide one-on-one and group training to faculty members, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement the curriculum and cater to diverse student needs.
  • Collaborate with the Learning Support Head to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring that their unique learning requirements are addressed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies and interventions to support students with special needs in the classroom setting.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs.

Educational Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working in a learning support or similar role, preferably in an international school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development and alignment processes.
  • Familiarity with childcare education and special needs education.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, parents, and students.
  • Ability to provide effective training and support to faculty members, adapting instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in childcare education and special needs education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
