Land O’Lakes, Inc would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: Accountant

Position Summary:

The Accountant will maintain accurate transactional records in the accounting system, as well as ensure compliance with Venture37’s financial and operational procedures that meet the requirement of the Ethiopian context and the Gates Foundation. The Accountant will support day-to-day accounting, financial, grant and administrative aspects of a multifaceted development program.

Reporting & Supervision:

  • The Accountant will report to the Senior Finance Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Accounting

  • Responsible for the processing of all check and wire transfer payments
  • Submit salary and pension statutory deductions to the relevant government authorities monthly.
  • Assist with month end financial reports and send to Land O’Lakes HQ office in Minnesota for processing.
  • Ensure Venture37 is fully compliant with all the relevant government authorities.
  • Assist in the management and reconciliation of LOL bank accounts
  • In coordination with Senior Finance Manager, assist with the preparation of monthly budgets and projections as well as monthly financial statements for various projects according to LOL and donor requirements.
  • Prepare payments, vouchers, and ensuring that all supporting documents are included and complete in accordance with Venture37 and donor policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Finance Manager, Country Office and HQ Accountant to provide assistance to the field /office staff on accounting and timesheet matters.
  • Ensure that all creditors and  debtors  accounts are  reconciled, and  accruals  schedules prepared monthly.
  • Utilize established SharePoint system (DevLink) to store key documents and share key project and country related information with other staff.
  • Maintaining financial management files for all local transactions as required by Venture 37, including but not limited to filing of general ledger journal vouchers, accounts payable documentation, and other miscellaneous financial expenses
  • Assist with duties related to the legal name change of the organization, including finalizing the closeout of previously used bank accounts, declaring tax and pension for new employees, and communicating with tax authorities, banks, and local partners
  • Contribute to the work planning process and responsible for drafting the annual procurement plan
  • Work Closely with the HR Admin assistant regarding procurement processes
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or related field of study
  • Minimum 3 years experience in project accounting and financial management of donor-funded programs
  • Prior experience in administering staff benefits, pension funds, payroll, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate, collaborate, and negotiate with clients, host government officials, NGOs, sub-grantees in implementing project activities.
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to ensure sound decision making
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written in English.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to the field to support activities

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant certification (or equivalent)
  • Experience with Cost Point, SharePoint and/or award management systems
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost share and USG cost principles

Position 2: Data Analyst

Position Summary:

The Data Analyst will be responsible for designing and implementing the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Plan for the project. This entails creating data collection tools and process, coordinating all data collection, including internal monitoring and annual surveys and external evaluations, ensuring data quality and completeness, and maintaining up to date databases. This role will also lead learning and adaptive management on the project in collaboration with the National Coordinator.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Data Analyst will report to the National Coordinator, with technical support from the Venture37 Global Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team

Position Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead the development of a gender-sensitive MEL Plan, and update as needed throughout project implementation. This includes developing indicator definitions, data collection tools, analysis plans, and processes in accordance with the project objectives, reporting requirements, and learning goals.
  • Train staff and select participants in the monitoring data collection needs and oversee the quality of the data collected
  • Carry out internal annual data collection after year 1, including developing the scope of work (SOW), selecting, training, and overseeing enumerators and data entry, ensuring data quality, and completing data analysis and report.
  • Oversee external evaluations for baseline and endline, including developing SOW, selecting the consultant, review and provide feedback for tools and reporting.
  • Ensure development of an electronic data collection and management tool and ensure data is entered and up to date.
  • Conduct periodic pause and reflect sessions and other learning events with the project team and stakeholders to explain results, collect feedback, and strategize on project adaption.
  • Provide regular reports to project management on progress against expectations.
  • Compile indicators and contribute to report writing for semi-annual reports to the donor.
  • Other duties as requested by the National Coordinator

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, statistics, or another related field
  • At least 6 years of demonstrated experience of increasing responsibility in leading and carrying out MEL for donor-funded programs.
  • Well-developed conceptual, analytical, and innovative problem-solving ability
  • Computer literacy and competency in use of Microsoft Office software and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata)
  • Professional proficiency in Amharic and English with excellent writing skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to work independently as an individual or as part of a team.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience in GIS software
  • Experience with agricultural programs in Ethiopia
  • Experience with Gates funded programs

Workplace: Addis Ababa

Position 3: National Coordinator

Reporting & Supervision:

The National Coordinator will report to the Group Director, Technical Impact and Innovation

This position will have four direct reports: Artificial Insemination Advisor, Data Analyst, Accountant, and the Gender and Youth Inclusion Specialist

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Overseeing work planning and project implementation as well as technical guidance, overall management, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of project indicators to Land O’Lakes Venture 37 and donor organization, with a focus on gender integration.
  • Effective planning and achievement of project goals and targets, within budget, and planned scope.
  • Provide management and oversight of program operations, including financial, administration, logistics, procurement, property, human resources and database management.
  • Ensure compliance donor rules and regulations as well as policies and regulations of Land O’Lakes Venture37
  • Ensure close collaboration and coordination with cooperating partners to guarantee smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in agreements. Play the lead role in communication with in-country program sub-awardees and partners.
  • Coordinate with government institutions and public and private technical experts to facilitate the development of updated training curriculums and programs that ensure that the gender inclusiveness goals of the project are met
  • Work closely with the Data Analyst to ensure specific indicators for measuring gender inclusiveness are in all implementation activities and that data is being collected as a part of the Performance Measure Plan.
  • Facilitate full integration of gender sensitive approaches throughout program implementation, working with the GESI Specialist and US-based GYSI Advisor to ensure inclusive program implementation.
  • Work with business development team to develop new business opportunities to further deepen impact within Ethiopia and the region
  • Travel to implementation areas as needed to support the above activities.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in agricultural economics, agricultural extension, livestock/dairy development or relevant with at least 8 years relevant experience managing agricultural development projects. Post graduate degreed is desirable.
  • Previous experience managing donor-funded development projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in agricultural business management (livestock production / dairy) through engaging smaller farmers
  • Demonstrated experience and success in leading, supervising, coaching and developing others
  • Ability to coordinate, collaborate, and negotiate with host government officials, NGOs, sub-grantees in implementing project activities
  • Excellent verbal and written (English) communication skills with the ability to dialogue, network, and negotiate with funding organizations, community groups, private sector organizations and local governments
  • Proven financial management and budgeting skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel
