We empower people with disabilities and enable eye health services in low-income countries. Over the last three decades we improved health systems, enabled education for all, and amplified the voices of people with disabilities.
Our programmes include:
Eye Health – preventing blindness and promoting eye health for all
Inclusive Education – ensuring children with disabilities receive quality, inclusive education
Inclusive Economic Empowerment – ensuring that barriers are removed for men and women with disabilities to access decent work
· NTDs: elimination and control of the Neglected Tropical Disease
Light for the World with funding from Mastercard Foundation will implement an 8 year project dubbed We Can Work, a regional signature disability program that uses a system and mindset change approach to impact the lives of at least 1,000,000 young women and men with disabilities and enables them to access dignified and fulfilling work. The program works with umbrella Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and Entrepreneurship Hubs in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria.
With our partners, we will effect change at the level of individuals (including households and communities), organizations and institutions. Young persons with disabilities will act as change agents and provide disability inclusion advisory services and confidently advocate for disability-inclusive policies and practices among key system actors.
Light for the World would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.
Position 1: Disability Inclusion Advisor-Internal/External
Job Requirements
- Minimum BA degree in fields relating to development work, disability rights, or program management. Candidates with Master degree is preferred
- At least 5 years of experience working in Non-Governmental Organizations, or Organizations of Persons with Disabilities
- Familiar with Adult learning/ participatory training methodologies
- High level of exposure to barriers that persons with disabilities face and practical solutions to overcome those barriers, either through life experience or through previous work experience
- Experienced trainer and facilitator with experience in designing and conducting skills-building workshops and other capacity development approaches with a variety of stakeholders.
- Excellent people skills with the ability to develop others and to impart knowledge and experience in an accessible and clear manner.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Commitment to local capacity building and experience of engaging and working with local stakeholders in project design and implementation.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementation of Livelihoods and Disability inclusion is desired.
- Show great initiative and be able to work well in a team and independently.
- Ability to produce timely and deliver high-quality results.

Position 2: Learning and Documentation Officer
Job Requirements
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences, International relations, international development, or a related field
- Minimum three(3) years’ professional experience in communications, public relations, or a similar field.
- Demonstrable experience in writing engaging print and digital content e.g. blogs, case studies, summary reports, and stories of change, for technical audiences and/or other stakeholders.
- Proven track record of distilling complex information into engaging messaging content.
- Competent in digital communications and working with digital platforms and devices.
- Strong team player with an interest in co-creating engaging content. Photography skills desired.
- Must be a self-starter with proven analytical, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision

Position 3: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Job Requirements
- A University Degree in Information Management, Statistics, Economics, Monitoring & Evaluation, Demography, Population Studies and/or any other related field.
- Demonstrated experience in data processing and management of surveys, researches and databases;
- Demonstrated experience of statistical packages and/ or data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, Excel, Epi Info, SMART, STAT ) and advanced computer skills (word-processing, spread sheets, and databases) are a must;
- Experience with mobile data collection, cloud-based, digital data management and information systems is an added bonus.
- At least 5 years’ direct experience in a position of monitoring and evaluation. Experience in the non-pofit sector is an added bonus.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self‐starter, self‐disciplined and ability to work independently.
- Passionate about disability inclusion, Economic Empowerment programs and Light for the World’s mission.

Position 4: Program Manager, We Can Work (Internal/External Vacancy)
Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in Development studies, International Development, Sociology, Social Sciences, Programme Management or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ project management and grant management experience in a similar INGO or recognized NGO role which explicitly involved donor-funded projects.
- Excellent people skills with experience in collaborating in a diverse and dynamic team
- Knowledge and experience of disability inclusion and/or working with organizations of persons with disabilities
- Experience in partnership management, including government liaisons.
- Proven effectiveness in leading and coaching professionals.
- Professional intensive experience and hands-on knowledge on broader capacity building, with excellent facilitation skills.
- Innovative and strategic thinker always ready to adapt and learn.
- Tech savvy with proficiency in the use of MS Office software packages.
- High levels of integrity, accountability, and honesty.
- Commitment to Light for the World’s mandate and values
