Lion Heart Academy would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: English Literacy Specialist, Primary & Middle School Lead Teacher

Position Specifics:

  • Create and maintain lesson plans based on assigned curriculum. Additionally, you are expected to maintain a comprehensive Lesson Plan Binder for each class, including materials, activities and other lesson enhancements implemented during the year.
  • Meet regularly with colleagues in the Primary & Middle School teaching team to evaluate curriculum, assess learning, discuss Primary & Middle School standards and benchmarks, and offer ideas and suggestions for how to shape our emerging High School.
  • Maintain an accurate record and communicate with families about their children’s progress and needs.
  • Create lesson plans for and teach classes following the curriculum, supporting colleagues to cover teaching when necessary.
  • Work with students with Special Educational Needs
  • Participate in staff meetings, progress reporting, and evaluations, and complete all necessary paperwork and requirements of the school in a timely manner.
  • Help to organize and plan extracurricular activities and opportunities for project-based, experiential learning, including Field Trips, the Science Fair, Art Show, and Drama.
  • Conduct oneself appropriately, according to the Guiding Principles of LionHeart Academy, and represent the school in a professional and positive manner to the community at large.

Reports to:

The English Literacy Specialist/ Primary & Middle School Lead Teacher reports to the Department of Learning & Development and participates as a member of the teaching staff.

Job Requirement & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, literacy, or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years teaching experience at the elementary through middle school level
  • Strong knowledge of current literacy research and best practices
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience working with struggling readers and/or English Language Learners
  • Certification in reading or literacy instruction

Position 2: Amharic Language & Literacy Specialist, Primary & Middle School Lead Teacher

Position Specifics:

  • Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of the subject;
  • Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to all students in the class;
  • Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and achievements of the individual students and groups of students;
  • Adopting and working towards the implementation of the school curriculum development plan; Create and maintain lesson plans based on assigned curriculum. Additionally, you are expected to maintain a comprehensive Lesson Plan Binder for each class, including materials, activities and other lesson enhancements implemented during the year.
  • Assigning work, correcting, and marking work carried out by his/her students;

Job Requirement

  • Qualified and experienced Amharic Language and Literature Teacher with a BA or MA in Language and Literature (an Amharic language and Literature Degree is preferable) and a relevant professional teaching qualification
  • Have secondary teaching experience of at least 5 years
  • Have excellent English language skills
  • 3-5 years teaching experience at the elementary through middle school level
  • Strong knowledge of current literacy research and best practices
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Position 3: Admission & Human Resource Officer

Position Specifics:

  • Assist in the preparation on and updating of employee handbook.
  • Ensure employees follow policies and procedures.
  • Keep the staff directory and organizational charts up to date.
  • Maintain records and reports, including teacher certifications and professional development hours.
  • Oversee hiring and exit interviews and procedures, including new employee orientation and the processing of initial and terminal paperwork.
  • Participate in teachers’ union meetings and contract negotiations.
  • Perform benefits administration.
  • Schedule interviews.
  • Serve as liaison between administrators, professional and support staff, school board and teachers’ unions.
  • Supervise the activities of the HR team.

Position 4: Care Giver for Preschool Campus

Position Specifics:

  • Assist in preparing a variety of lesson plans and instructional materials for preschoolers depending on their individual ability to comprehend ideas

Position 5: Faculty Member of Preschool

Faculty members uphold the following duties, aptitudes and responsibilities:

A.  Specific Duties

Teach classes as assigned by management as follows:

                 1. Become knowledgeable in HighScope Curriculum as a main Instructor of Preschool

                 2. Develop and teach French language to our Preschoolers

                 3. Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.

                 4. Observe and evaluate children’s performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.

                 5. Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss them with supervisors, parents or guardians, and child development specialists.

II. Department of Learning & Development (DOLD)

A.    propel Student Achievement and Academic Standards

Work with management and Leadership team to formalize the current system of Student Progress Evaluation, including but limited to the following elements:

                  1. Create academic calendar that aligns academic terms and entering anecdotes with issuance of three student progress reports and bi-annual family meetings.

Plan and support communication to parents about the LHA curriculum, its goals, and student attainment. Ensure that LHA policies and procedures are regularly communicated to staff and students so that they are clear about their responsibilities.

B.  Supporting Professional Excellence

Facilitate development and implementation of a new Faculty Orientation Program.

Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop the Faculty Performance Evaluation system.  Ensure that teaching staff performance aligns with organizational goals.  Conduct regular staff performance reviews in a timely manner.

C.  Modeling the LionHeart Code of Conduct

  • Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and positive, courteous relations with staff, students, families and visitors.
  • Actively coach colleagues in practices that promote discovery, communication and collaboration to create a harmonious and effective working environment.

Position 6: Team Leader – Primary & Middle School

Job Summary:

Team Leader – Primary & Middle School is responsible for

  • Supporting the development of curriculum from Grades 1-8 through fostering trust, creativity, and innovation by developing leadership in others, building teams and creating a collaborative culture
  • Promoting the philosophy, principles, and practices of the US Common Core Standards within the context of LionHeart Project Based Learning and the holistic perspective all-school programs
  • Supporting the DOLD in overseeing the day-to-day management and leadership of the Primary & Middle School
  • Supporting teachers in their assessment and reporting practices for Primary & Middle School students to ensure these are in alignment with the school’s guiding principles
  • Deputizing for the DOLD in their absence or other appropriate times as requested
  • Supporting student welfare and wellbeing in the primary & middle school through oversight of the ASP program, in partnership with tutor, etc.
  • Coordinating support for primary & middle school students as needed through partnership with learning support and ELA teachers
  • Contributing to the admissions process through tours, reviewing files and ensuring a smooth transition upon arrival
  • Providing workshops and other sources of information for parents on the primary & middle school and US Curriculum and LHA learning approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide pedagogical and administrative leadership with a focus on improving learning for primary & middle school students
  • Substitute Primary & Middle School Instructors when in need

  • Ensure that meetings, discussions and decision-making leads to action that improves student learning aligned with the philosophy of LHA and current educational practice.

  • Lead and support teachers with their curriculum planning and ensuring all the expectations and requirements of the US Curriculum along with National Curriculum and the LHA Teaching and Learning Expectations are implemented, fostering innovation and creativity
  • Work with students with Special Education Needs
  • Ensure effective integration of technology and information literacy teaching and learning tools and strategies and supporting pedagogical change by liaising with the Department of Learning & Development
  • Ensure that the mission and the school values are at the heart of the learning program
  • Leaders support professional learning for continuous improvement in faculty (and staff) to improve student learning
  • In collaboration with the DOLF/Head of School, continually engage in professional dialogue and professional development to improve student learning
  • Support and work with teachers to guide professional learning and growth through working together in the classroom, regular meetings and adapted professional learning sessions
