Position 1: – People & Culture / HR Coordinator
Job Summary
Mercy Corps has been working in Ethiopia since 2004, collaborating with the government, private sector, and civil society to build resilience and ensure responsive programs. The focus is on enhancing the resilience of climate and conflict-affected communities through market systems development for improved livelihoods, access to food, and clean water. The strategy includes improving livelihoods, ensuring access to nutritious food, building social cohesion, and providing sustained access to clean water and sanitation. Currently operating in nine regional states and Addis Ababa, Mercy Corps works with donors such as USAID, European Union, GAC, Hilton Foundation, UN, JOA, Sweden, EKN, and other foundations.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or related field with relevant experience.
- Professional Certification in Human Resource Management
- 5-6 years’ experience with at least 2 years’ experience of progressive and hands-on HR generalist experience evident in multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and relevant employment laws.
- Previous experience with the INGO sector supporting a large country portfolio is required.
- Demonstrated experience working in a high-volume context and complex recruitment environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office, HR Information Management and applicant tracking systems is required.
- Ability to communicate, influence and problem solve effectively across diverse cultures and geographical distances with sensitivity.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Solid communication skills and decision-making capabilities based on analytical skills and critical thought processes.

Position 2: – Financial Inclusion Specialist
General Position Summary:
The Financial Inclusion Specialist will support implementation of high-quality financial inclusion through capacity-building for teams, conducting market assessments and designing interventions and building relationships with key market actors from the private sector and government. The Specialist will also be involved in designing Intervention Concept notes (ICN) that have financial inclusion, and helping to ensure robust M&E, working with our MEL team. S/he will also play a role in representing Mercy Corps’ financial inclusion work externally, through building relationships with key partners and participating in relevant coordination and learning events.
Job Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
- BA degree in Business, Economics, Development Studies, Program Management, or related Social Science fields.
- At least 4 years work experience in program management and coordination, preferably in financial inclusion, digital financial services (DFS), product & strategy development; Islamic finance, financial literacy programs, and community awareness campaigns.
- Previous work experience in the financial sector and international development organization is an advantage.
- Familiar with all aspects of the relevant market systems including key actors, micro-financial institutions (MFIs), banks,
- Understanding of Markets Systems Development (MSD) approach.
- Familiarity with Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) methodology and practices is advantageous.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to Mercy Corps project sites and field locations, including traveling to insecure environments, is required.
- Fluency in Somali and English is required.

Position 3: – Business and Financial Inclusion Specialist
General Position Summary
The Business and Financial inclusion Specialist will lead initiatives focused on enhancing financial access, literacy, and inclusion for marginalized groups, lead financial market related activities of the project through its assessment validation and activities selection and planning to implementation of activities. Support scaling up of successful models and rolling out innovations that have the potential to include large numbers of refugees and their hosts. He/She is expected to drive forward market-driven approaches in all stages of programming, promote and capture learnings to inform program decisions, ensure results are achieved and produce scheduled outputs at deadline and to expected quality.
The Business and Financial inclusion Specialist will contribute analytical thinking and innovative approaches, and will support integration, layering and sequencing of approaches across all Mercy Corps Ethiopia market-driven program.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualification and Transferable Skills:
- Excellent communicator in English with demonstrated excellent report writing and speaking skills, knowledge of local languages very advantageous.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship management skills.
- 5 years’ experience in strategic planning and implementing programs.
- BA/BSc in, business administration/Management/Sociology , Agri-economic , and relevant field, or equivalent experience
- Strong organizational and managerial skills
- Experience or working in the Somali region with strong contextual knowledge of local cultures and ways of working.
- Ability and experience (a plus) working in refugee and host communities in Dollo Ado,
- Knowledge of the Somali language
- Experience effectively initiating and maintaining productive relationships with private, public, civil society, and research sector partners.
- Excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook & Powerpoint)

- Fluent in English
- Knowledge of the local language is an asset (Somali)
- Business-minded, entrepreneurial, adaptive, curious, with great problem-solving skills, unafraid to ask questions, and results motivated.
- He /She will be a tolerant and flexible individual able to work in difficult and stressful environments and follow procedures.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and networking skills with a wide range of private, partner, and NGO-sector actors
- Computer literate especially in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Position 4: – Driver
General Position Summary:
The driver will provide safe, transport services for MC program and support staff in the described AOR (Area of Responsibility). The driver will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the MC transport department.
Job Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
- 3rd Grade or above Valid Driving License.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Driver preferably in an International NGO.
- Experience in repairing Vehicles (Auto background) is an advantage.
- Ability to communicate in both Amharic & English languages and knowledge of other local language is preferred.
- Knowledge of routes, duty stations, project areas, the NGO and diplomatic community is required.

- Willing to work in remote area and able to work in team.
- Motivated and committed.
- Flexible and willing to work under pressure, outside normal office hours and during weekends.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and appropriate flexibility.
- Emotional maturity and physical stamina.

- Good Time Management Skill, Attendance.
