Orbis International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that works in developing countries to save sight worldwide.  Orbis prevents and treats blindness through hands-on training, public health education, improved access to quality eye care, and partnerships with local health care organizations in an effort to eliminate avoidable blindness.  Orbis International-Ethiopia is a legally registered Country Office of this organization, carrying out the same mission in Ethiopia.

Orbis International Ethiopia would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: WASH – NTD Technical Assistant

The WASH – NTD Technical Assistant reports to the Project Manager for WASH-NTD Coordination.  The main functions consist of, but not limited to the following:

  • Carry out and implement the WASH-NTDs project plan alongside other project staff members. This will include community engagement, WASH-NTDs behavioral change interventions and health education, interactive WASH workshops, establish/strengthen WASH-NTDs coordination platforms, facilitate the ONE WASH national program implementation and WASH infrastructure development in partnership with local NGOs & the government ONE WASH program.
  • Regularly report to the line manager on all relevant matters including, but not limited to, project updates, project developments and progress, and issues such as resourcing needs, training/development, leave, work, health & safety issues.
  • Facilitate WASH-NTDs trainings, coordination platforms and health education/awareness creation sessions and interactive workshops, presenting to a spectrum of audiences including primary school teachers & principals, HEWs, HDAs, WASH service providers, Hygiene promoters.
  • Carry out community engagement meetings and activities including discussions, meetings and mobilization in communities to encourage community led WASH-NTDs developments.
  • Establish/strengthen woreda, kebele & village WASH team/committees to monitor and maintain community led WASH-NTDs initiatives.
  • Evaluate needs for WASH-NTDs interventions at household, community and school levels,
  • Continues support to strengthen already established zonal & district level collaborative WASH-NTDs platforms with close follow-up, monitoring and supportive supervisions.
  • Advocate and disseminate the WASH-NTDs coordination tools and engagement of experts via the online training and using various communication channels.
  • Compile WASH-NTDs related information in the respective zones and share to the supervisor on a monthly basis or when required.
  • Perform any other related activities as may be assigned to her/him by his/her supervisor.

EMPLOYMENT:  For one year as of employment period with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Qualification:

BSc in Environmental Health, public health, hydrogeology, hydraulic and water resource management/engineering.

Work Experience:

  • At least three years of demonstrated experience in implementing, managing, and monitoring WASH-NTDs & health programs.
  • Having SBCC experience is advantageous
  • Knowledge in NTDs and WHO trachoma SAFE strategy
  • Experience in blindness prevention, trachoma, Schistosomiasis and STH elimination/control activities.

Skills:

  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Basic IT skills particularly word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal & written) required.
  • Experience relevant to carrying out WASH-NTD projects and programme’s at a community level and WHO standards
  • Experience carrying out education, teaching, awareness and training with individuals and groups of people.
  • Ability to work within and implement community development processes,
  • Ability to manage and form community processes for engagement.
  • Displays emotional maturity and resilience.
  • Proven organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize workloads, stick to time schedules and meet deadlines.

Position 2: Project Manager – WASH-NTDs Coordination

The Project Manager reports to the Senior Program Manager.  The main functions consist of, but not limited to the following:

  • Manage WASH-NTDs project in targeted zones and woredas of SNNPR, Sidama and Southwest Ethiopia regions.
  • Support ONE WASH supported woredas in planning, implementation and monitoring of ONE WASH activities.
  • Train community intermediaries and local partners on good governance in the WASH-NTDs field and how to conduct awareness raising aimed at the service seekers.
  • Closely works with WASH-NTDs Technical Experts, Field coordinators and ensure project activities and targets are met with the set timelines.
  • Develops woreda based WASH-NTDs plan and coordinates delivery of SAFE strategy.
  • In consultation and cooperation with the Senior Program Manager, project staff and partners, undertake the planning of project activities and budgets, reporting of all expenses and monitoring the implementation of the project.
  • Manage project resources (human, financial and property) and coordinate, supervise and provide technical support to the project staff for satisfactory and timely implementation of the planned project activities.
  • Controls the financial utilization of the projects together with the supervisor and the Finance Director.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of activities, reports, studies and baseline data of the project area.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports against the planned achievements and submit to the supervisor.
  • Participate in regional and zonal health planning and review meetings organized by regional health bureau, zone and, if necessary, at Woreda level
  • Prepare quarterly well-prepared case studies and submit to the supervisor and Communication Manager timely.
  • Plan and participate in annual planning and periodic monitoring and evaluations of the project, partnership and review meetings and conferences, as required.
  • Organize and lead joint supportive supervision and provide technical and managerial support with IECWs, woreda health offices, health facilities and other stakeholders.
  • Closely works with RHB- NTDs and WASH-NTDs team leaders and play a leading role of the coordination at all levels. This will include, planning the meetings, setting the agenda, sharing reports and communicating with relevant stakeholders and partners.
  • Ensure the existence of functional WASH-NTDs platforms using the coordination TOR and the woreda toolkit.
  • Advocate and disseminate the WASH-NTDs coordination tools and engagement of experts via the online training and using various communication channels.
  • Compile WASH-NTDs related information in the relevant regions and share to the head office on a monthly bases or when required.
  • Ensures project offices’ employees fulfil compliance requirements and meet Operations Department monthly and periodic reporting like HR status, leave, time sheet and etc.
  • Ensure staff movements are based on Operations department security guidance, trip schedules are communicated ahead of the trip and any security incidence are reported to the Operations Director on time.
  • Ensures office utilities and bills are paid in time and properly documented.
  • Perform any other related activities as may be assigned to her/him by his/her supervisor.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Fluency in English, Amharic and local language of the working area.
  • Practical skill in social and Behavior Change Communication especially hygiene and sanitation promotion activities
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating gender and diversity issues in promoting environmental health.
