Position 4: Senior Humanitarian Communications and Advocacy Manager
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree required in a relevant subject; Masters or equivalent is desirable.
- At least eight years’ post-qualification experience within, but not exhaustive to communications, media, advocacy, policy, information management, qualitative data analysis and report synthesis, humanitarian and development sectors in governmental or non-governmental institutions.
- At least two years’ first-hand experience of working on humanitarian responses, either at the global, institutional, donor or recipient country level is highly desirable.
Essential knowledge/technical skills
- Proven ability to develop rigorous, efficient and innovative data analysis methodologies and data management systems.
- Experience in explaining complex data findings simply and accessibly to diverse audiences, including through intelligent use of graphics and visualisations.
- First-rate written skills evidenced in published work, with the ability to present complex issues concisely and clearly to a wide audience.
- Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of different audiences including donors, journalists and the ‘general public’.
- Proven training skills, with ability to build data analysis capacity of technical specialists and policy generalists alike. Experience of delivering training, presentations and other capacity building activities to varied audiences, ideally within a country programme.
- Experience of leading communication activities (including information management) in a challenging environment.
- Familiarity with humanitarian issues, systems and actors, understanding of a range of crisis, risk and vulnerability indexes and indicators.
- Experience of using the various international humanitarian financing data sources particularly OECD, UN OCHA FTS and World Bank, and/or experience of working with geo-coded data is highly desirable.
- Excellent understanding of SC/SCA Member communication and information needs across fundraising, media and campaigning activities.
- Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children.
- Experience of working sensitively with vulnerable groups.
- Expert knowledge of analytical methodologies, approaches and tools.
- Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of additional local languages is a plus

Qualifications and Experience:
Key Skills Required
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years relevant work experience / Masters is preferred
- 4-5 years experience working with international and national NGOs as well as the various government offices and the community with at least 5 years leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience in program implementation and ensuring quality of programs.
- Proven ability in promoting and collaborating closely with multi-level stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations
- Knowledge of multi-donor regulations
- Experience with food commodity management systems and regulations required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc./MSc. Degree in Water Engineering, Hydraulic, Water Resources, Water Supply and sanitation Civil engineering and environmental related field with a minimum of 7 years related work experience in the area of emergency WASH out of which at least 2 years in humanitarian response
- Minimum of 3 years of proven and progressive work experience, preferably in NGOs.
- Proficient in computer skills (MS word, Excel, Power Point, Auto Cad & Water Cad)
- Experience in working with in international NOGs, projects management, government counterparts and other partners at various levels – federal, region to woreda levels. This includes technical support, capacity building and coordination.
- Experience in implementing Emergency WASH project.
