Position 1: AFCRN Project Administrator
Job description:
- Direct the day-to-day project related activities by working closely with the Principal Investigator.
- Review and adapt Addis Ababa University’s and consortium member institutions’ relevant financial, human resource, and procurement guidelines and policies to facilitate the smooth implementation of the project.
- Train or organize training for project staff to orient them on guidelines and operational manuals that are relevant to their respective responsibilities.
- Assists the Principal Investigator in the preparation of reports to donors and partners including regular reports to institutions in the consortium.
- Organize regular meetings with member institutions and scientific events at different milestones of the project and document the deliberations.
- Supports the Principal Investigator in liaising with relevant seminar speakers and trainers including making the necessary arrangements for the successful implementation of the desired scientific events.
- Work with the communication expert to see the development of a website as a platform to communicate the progress of the research to stakeholders and institutions in the consortium.
- By working with the communication expert, disseminate preliminary and final research findings through e.g., mailing lists, social media platforms and websites.
- Oversees the conduct of internal and external audits.
- Supervises the production of monthly finance management reports by the finance officer for the executive team.
- Supports the project affiliated faculty members and research staff in the development of new grant proposals.
- Oversee the recruitment, orientation, training, deployment, and management of full-time and parttime research staff including timely payment of their salaries and other payments.
- Provide need based administrative support to the School of Public Health finance and administrative team.

Project title: Network for Oncology Research in Sub-Saharan Africa (NORA)
Qualification and experience:
Advanced degree in Public Health (MPH with a minimum of 5 years’ experience or a PhD with a solid background in managing, preferably, non-communicable disease research projects).
Competencies and personal qualities:
- Committed to achieving the project goals.
- Able to work independently as a part of a team to implement the project.
- Ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural, and religious backgrounds, and maintaining impartiality and objectivity.
- Experience working in research consortiums or multi-country collaborative research projects.
- Experience in projects planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Extensive experience in developing scientific research proposals and drafting scientific and operational reports.
- Knowledge of the key disease related and health system challenges in the effort to control non-communicable diseases.
- Working knowledge of generic health system operations and that of the Ethiopian health system.
- Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
- Fluency in English – written and verbal.
- Excellent communication skill both in local languages and English and experience in communicating key data in reports and presentations.
- Ample exposure providing training to staff on operational matters related with research projects.
- Optimal exposure chairing programmatic and scientific meetings and documenting the proceedings.
- Competency in statistical packages for quantitative data analysis (STATA, SPSS, EpiData) experience in using software for qualitative data analysis such as Atlas.ti. is a plus.
- Adept at using all Microsoft Office applications.
- Past or present experience working with Addis Ababa university is desirable.
Position 2: Communications and Public Relations Officer
Job description:
- Work closely with the Principal Investigator of the project, the project manager, and research teams from all the institutions in the consortium.
- Develop communication and visibility strategy to be endorsed by the research team.
- Establish a standard communication protocol between institutions in the consortium to regularly update the progresses of the project and communicate with relevant stakeholders.
- Engage the investigators and project administrators and solicit data to be shared to stakeholders, the scientific community, and the public.
- Gather and document information pertaining to the progress of the project including preliminary and final research findings.
- Produce digital content about the project, its progress, and the research findings based on information from the research team.
- Research, identify and develop engaging stories about the project and its achievements that is fit to different digital platforms (news articles, blogs, editorials, magazine articles, social media posts); different channels (web, audiovisual, social media)
- Adapting information and data from obtained from the project into different digital formats (web content, blogs, social media posts etc.) for non-expert audiences, e.g. policy makers, practitioners, and the wider public.
- Formulating key messages for different targets as stipulated in the communication strategy.
- Developing communication materials in line with the REACCT-CAN corporate visual identity (presentations, leaflets, infographics etc)
- Engaging with stakeholders and moderating discussions online and face-to face.
- Will work on other tasks as assigned by the project management team

Project title: Research and Excellence in Africa Capacity to Control and Treat CANcer (REACCT-CAN)
Qualification and experience:
Advanced degree (Masters) in Public Relation; or Masters in Public Health (MPH) in Public Health Promotion and Health Communication or related fields.
A similar job experience of minimum of two years

Position 3: Accountant Officer
Principal Responsibilities:
- Analyzes of financial transactions, prepares financial documents, maintains records and posting of accounting data using Peachtree accounting software.
- Follows up-the timely collection of bank statements and advice and undertakes reconciliation with own records.
- Classifies, codes and journalizes accounting transactions for posting.
- Supervises the posting of accounting data to sub and general ledgers from accounting records and documents.
- Prepares monthly payroll and pass all necessary journal entries related with payroll and presents to supervisor for verification.
- Ensures monthly payments are made per payroll deductions; follows-up the orderly clearance of payables and receivables.
- Checks and posts ordinary receipt voucher, debit notes, credit notes and other vouchers; verifies.
- Prepares payment vouchers and certifies for approval.
- Provides assistance to internal and external auditors and answers their enquiries.
- Analyzes the case of abnormal balances shown in monthly trial balances.
- Provides professional advice and guidance to the school finance officers.
- Coordinates the collection and deposit of income and settlement of advances.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Essential Qualification and Experiences
- BA degree/Masters in accounting or similar fields from a recognized university.
- Demonstrated skills in accounting of large scale and/or multiple projects preferably in Ethiopian university contexts.
- At least 5 years of experience working as an accountant for organization with large scale and/or multiple projects.
- Discretion and a proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong computer literacy including Microsoft excel, word, power point etc.
- Strong administrative, communication and organizational skills.

Position 4: IT Officer
Job description:
- To work closely with the Principal Investigators of the project, the project manager, and research teams from all the institutions in the consortium.
- Creating new computer systems, networks, and applications or finding software errors through troubleshooting for IT based cancer data management applications at AAU
- Expected to work with computer-based information systems, software, and hardware, typically by designing, developing, and managing them including the following roles for the cancer data management program at AAU
- Identifying Key technical problems on regular basis and deploying the appropriate IT solutions to solve problems
- Designing computer-based systems or programs as requested
- Identifying user needs with technology
- Engaging with stakeholders and moderating discussions online and face-to face. Will work on other tasks as assigned by the project management team
