SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: Youth Entrepreneurship & Employability Specialist, BMZ (Addis Ababa/Adama)

As a Youth Entrepreneurship & Employability Specialist, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Conducting market opportunity assessments and grouping of service recipients, based upon their interests and motivation.
  • Facilitating linkages between service recipients/targeted young persons and market opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.
  • Mobilizing and collaborating with multiple stakeholders such as in Agriculture, Energy, Waste Management, Circular Economy, and Digital themes relevant to employment and entrepreneurship.
  • Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with employers, TVET/training providers and relevant organizations to generate employment opportunities and skills development.
  • Providing specialist advice on internships/apprenticeships and other learning pathways.
  • Tracking and coordinating job placements; maintaining log of contacts and performance records.
  • Providing technical guidance on market-driven workforce development methodologies, private sector partnerships, access to credit, entrepreneurship, etc. to key personnel, project staff, government ministries, and project partners and stakeholders;
  • Developing and implementing activities that facilitate preparation for youth participation in decision-making and the economy at the location levels;
  • Designing and leading activities targeting youth workforce development and entrepreneurship;
  • Overseeing activities that create links between the project targeted youth and private sector partners;
  • Facilitating the development of mechanisms for coordination, collaboration, consensus and trust building among key local actors including the government, private businesses, civil society organizations, women, media, citizens, youth, and other stakeholders;
  • Designing and leading activities that will decrease barriers to youth access to post-secondary training and/or market-driven workforce development programs leading to employment or self-employment;
  • Discovering and engaging with available networks of youth support systems, networks and organizations in the project location for the planning and implementation of project activities

The must haves:

  • BA Degree with at least five years of experience in a relevant discipline, such as entrepreneurship, inclusive business, business administration or related fields;
  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in youth skills or workforce development, including creating private sector linkages, coordinating internships and apprenticeships, job matching services, and youth entrepreneurship promotion;
  • Understanding of National youth and employability   policy
  • Proven track record in employability skills development in projects of similar nature, preferably in international development organizations
  • Understanding and practical experience working on gender inclusive projects
  • Experiences in working with the target group i.e. Youth, families and community
  • Strong understanding of issues faced by women and youth populations related to education, employment, human resource development, skills training, entrepreneurship; and job creation;
  • History of positive working relationships with similar projects, civil society, international organizations, and donors; and knowledge of youth development counterparts, individuals, and organizations active or interested in youth development, employment, and resiliency are highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated understanding and technical capacity in the development, coordination, implementation of complex and diverse sets of interventions that produce expected outcomes;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Youth lead projects rules, regulations, and reporting requirements desired;
  • Excellent command of English, written and spoken
  • Demonstrated experience in managing capacity building programmes with a background in training;
  • Commitment to the principles of inclusive approaches to programming that encourages full participation of individuals regardless of gender, disability status, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or other marginalized status
  • Proactive and entrepreneurial attitude; exploring and developing innovative approaches that appeal to rural and urban/per-urban youth and women are considered an advantage;
  • Excellent networking skills; ability to engage with the public and private sectors, as well as civil society;
  • Excellent (writing and oral) communication skills, reporting and presentation skills;
  • Ability, to prioritize multiple assignments in an extremely fast-paced environment, to meet deadlines, to exercise good judgment and to effectively communicate with Management;

Position 2: Admin Assistant

While working with us an Admin Assistant you will be in charge of the following,

  • Organizing properly record keeping of personnel data, property administration and Keeping systematically updated record of staff and documents of the location.
  • Coordinating, controlling and ensuring proper recording, use and timely maintenance of the facilities, building and equipment by own force or outside contractors as per the policies and procedures thereon.
  • Coordinating provision of general services and maintenance of properties and local purchases.
  • Working to ensure the premises of the organization are well organized, safe, attractive, and conducive for work and child development coordinating gardeners and maintenance technician
  • Working to ensure effective security systems in the programme location by closely working with security guards.
  • Assisting all affiliate projects on areas of administrative tasks including personnel, data keeping, maintenance activities, etc.
  • Coordinating staff development and engagement initiatives by assessing needs, conducting pre- and post-training assessments, writing training reports etc.
  • Ensuring that the services such as electricity, water line, internet, and telephone lines are properly serving the units, facilities, SOS families in cost effective manner by closely working with concerned stakeholders.
  • Properly managing the works of HR & Admin coordinator of the location while the position holder is not on his duty for different reasons.
  • Supporting the smooth functioning of the farm run by SOS families and assists them in planning and implementation tasks of their activities.
  • Performing other similar activities as assigned by immediate supervisor or Location Program Director.

Child Safeguarding

  • Responsible to take part in awareness raising sessions and capacity building trainings in relation to Child Safeguarding to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
  • Supporting children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms
  • Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager

Position 3: Cashier

While working with us as a cashier you will be in charge of the following,

Checking accounts receive payments made to SOS-CVE and provide official receipt thereon.

Depositing daily money received by cash and cheque to bank account.

Preparing payment vouchers for approval of concerned official.

Administering petty cash and effecting authorized payments ensuring completeness and correctness of supporting documents.

Advancing cash for authorized expenditures of the organization, ensuring completeness and correctness of supporting documents.

Effecting payment of bill such as telephone, electricity, water, etc. Upon approval of the same.

Paying salaries according to the payroll prepared.

Maintaining petty cash fund and replenishes fund with accountant against proper payment vouchers.

Keeping properly cash and cheque pad, printed receipts and transaction documents in safe custody.

Keeping record of amounts received and paid, reconciles cash at hand with recorded balance.

Notifying immediately the Program Finance coordinator of any overage or shortage incurred.

Compiling and submitting daily recipes and payments to the Program Finance coordinator with the necessary supporting documents.

Controlling mother’s household books every 14 days

Coding all payments as per given directives

Follow up of daily cash position.

Performing other similar duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Child Safeguarding

Responsible to take part in awareness raising sessions and capacity building trainings in relation to Child Safeguarding to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination

Supporting children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms

Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager

Position 4: Project Cashier

While working with us as a project cashier you will be in charge of the following,

Reviewing payment requests for accuracy, completeness, compliance, level of authorization and clarity on the invoices.

Reviewing disbursement requests for accuracy, documentation and validity; effect payment to the right vendor from the right project.

Reviewing accounts on regular basis to ensure the balances are complete and accurate;

Recording of all the project financial transactions into the SOS financial recording, meeting all submission dates, and reporting requirements as required by the immediate supervisor.

Assuring accuracy of supporting documentation for accounting records;

Organizing and maintain accounting filling system;

Preparing payroll and arranging timely payment of salaries.

Follow-up and control payable and receivable accounts.

Receiving original transaction documents, checks completeness and correctness and passes them to immediate supervisor.

Taking part in inventory taking and control of assets and stock items

Assisting the Location Finance coordinator / Project Finance and Admin Officer in the Implementation of the internal control system and financial procedures and manual of the organization.

Providing technical support to the project team in financial management related issues.

Follow up of daily cash position

Performs other similar duties as assigned by the project coordinator and as the emergency situation dictates.

Child Safeguarding

Responsible to take part in awareness raising sessions and capacity building trainings in relation to Child Safeguarding to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination

Supporting children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms

Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager

Position 5: Project Health Officer

While working with us as a project cashier you will be in charge of the following,

Preparing, implementing and monitoring short, midterm and long-term plans on heath related services or activities.

Training target groups on youth friendly Sexual Reproductive Health and Family Planning.

Identifying & training peer educators on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH).

Training selected health extension workers & health professionals on youth friendly service delivery.

Coordinating the provision of supports to the existing public youth centers.

Providing support for public health centers (Hospitals & Health Centers) to strengthen /establish youth friendly services.

Preparing awareness raising sessions on SRH for public secondary schools using different strategies such using IEC/BCC materials.

Preparing awareness raising session for young mothers & Adolescent girls on sexual violence protective measures.

Nurturing a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.

Educating and guiding beneficiaries on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle habits

Ensuring that target groups receive medical attention/ first-aid services if they are ill, injured and need medical treatment, referring serious cases to clinics and follows-up referral cases to hospitals.

Performs other similar duties as assigned by the project coordinator and as the emergency situation dictates.

Child Safeguarding

Responsible to raise awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles and to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination

Ensuring strong focus on CS prevention by organizing informal and formal discussions, workshops and other capacity buildings activities for children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms

Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager

Ensuring strong focus on CS prevention by organizing informal and formal discussions, workshops and other capacity buildings activities for children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms

Experience: A minimum of two – four years relevant work experience as a health professional

Demonstrate professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills with children, caregivers, health institutions and Programme Coordinators
