SOS Sahel Ethiopia is a registered humanitarian and development organization dedicated to improve living standard of farmers and herders through better management of their environment and improved access to fair and rewarding agricultural and natural products markets. The organization has been serving the people of Ethiopia since 1989 and currently having program operations in four regional states in Oromia, Sidama, South & Central Ethiopia.

Transform Soil Fertility Management in Ethiopia (referred as “TRANSFORM) is a consortium program led by International Fertilizer Development Center(IFDC) through the coordination of key consortium partners that consist of Stichting Wageningen Research /SWR/ – Wageningen Environmental Research /WENR/, World Soil Information /ISRIC/, SOS Sahel Ethiopia, Environment and Coffee Forest Forum /ECFF/), and preferred partners (MoA, EIAR, local entities and private consulting firms). The program implementation is anticipated to run for the period from January 2025 to December 2028.

SOS Sahel Ethiopia would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following position.

Position 1: – Community Development Facilitator

Specific duties and responsibilities:

Provide technical support and advice to local extension agents and farmers on soil fertility management practices and fertilizer use

Link the soil fertility management technologies (vermicomposting, compost, lime and etc. with youth job creation activities.

Engage in soils related discussions with key stakeholders and build independent working relationships with District levels of stakeholders;

Develop effective and collaborative partnerships with stakeholders across the soil-landscape (government, business, research institutions, universities, cooperatives, farmers’ organizations, farmers, etc.) in the delivery of priority sector objectives.

Regularly report to the project coordinator on progress, challenges, and constraints of the work

Support the program’s in relation to soil fertility and soil health technologies dissemination

Build capacity of the DAs system on disseminating soil fertility, acidity and salinity management technologies.

Support farm households to effectively integrate soil health and fertility practices on their farm

Capacitate small-scale food producers through producer-to- producer training

Build capacity of DAs and extension staff in participatory extension approaches, ISFM techniques, on disseminating soil fertility, acidity and salinity management technologies

Closely work with and support communities and government partners to effectively plan and implement activities of the project as set out in the project document;

Establish and maintain good relationships with Government Offices, NGO’s and all members of the community in and around the project sites;

Collaborate with the project partner organizations staff and other SOS Sahel projects on their relevant field of activities, exchange visits, training and studies;

Together with the senior project staff prepare annual, quarterly and monthly physical and financial plans in line with the approved project document;

Submit monthly, quarterly and annual technical and financial monitoring/progress reports to the project Team Leader using the approved format;

Ensure efficient implementation and expenditure of annual plans and budgets;

Closely monitor and provide technical backstopping to communities, farmers groups and District government partners;

Submit quarterly and annual technical and financial monitoring reports to the project Team Leader using the approved format,

Ensure the implementation of safe programs by being alert and responsive to safeguarding risks in project communities,

Respect and promote SOS Sahel Ethiopia’s core values, principles, policies and procedures.

Carry out other duties as assigned,

Salary: As per the organization salary scale and benefit packages

Required Qualifications and Experiences:

B.Sc or MSc in Agriculture Science, Soil Science, Crop Science, Agronomy, and related fields of studies with minimum of 5 or 3 years prior work experience respectively preferably in the NGO and Agricultural research Areas;

Competencies and Skills:

Extensive experiences in developing and supporting various soil health components;

Specific experience with vermicomposting, compost, lime, and related activities integrated with private sectors;

Knowledge and competence of participatory approach and multi-stakeholder engagement facilitation, and ability to create and deliver compelling presentations;

Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines;

Strong command of English language and report writing skills,

Motorbike riding experience with renewed license.

Position 2: – Gender and Livelihood Expert

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide overall support to the project team in the day to day livelihood activities of the progam implementation.

Work closely with the Program Manager and field based project technical staff to ensure that support functions are being delivered to a high standard and efficiently;

Identify viable livelihood options of the project women groups to improve their livelihoods;

Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of livelihood service functions to projects and ensuring that the use of these services is planned and delivered in a timely and efficient manner so that effective project delivery can be ensured.

Contribute technical assistance to the women social grain bank association members under the intensive guidance of the Program Manager;

Contribute to the development and delivery of services to ensure that poor women benefit from the project intervention;

Work within objective of the project to ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed within the project activities;

Provide advices to the rural Women social grain bank management practices;

Support the beneficiary women to improve their saving culture through providing training;

Work to ensure the economic empowerment and livelihoods of the women supported by the project;

Conduct regular field visits to oversee, coordinate and monitor field level activities of the project;

Support the Program Manager to develop annual budgets and activity plans in line with donor contracts and SOS Sahel Ethiopia internal financial policies and procedures;

Provide support to the Program Manger that donor and government progress and final reports are submitted on time, in the correct format.

Assist in planning and organizing quarterly projects review meetings as well as annual project progress review meeting;

Provide hands-on support to Program Manager to ensure approved projects activities are delivered according to the contractual requirements of donors or other stakeholders.

Participate in monitoring of project implementation with the project team and other implementing partners and give heads up on a regular basis to the project coordinator;

Work closely with the stakeholders to ensure gender and equity issues are identified and addressed from the project outset;

Provide guidance to project colleagues on integrating gender equity activities into work plans and incorporating a gender equity perspective into the work;

Provide technical support to the organization sectors, units, and teams on gender-responsive program implementations and reporting;

Support in compiling periodic reports, case stories, as well as plan of implementation.

Salary: As per SOS Sahel Ethiopia salary scale

Required Qualifications:

M.Sc. Degree in Agricultural Economics, Business Development, Gender Development, or related fields with minimum of 5yrs relevant practical experience, preferably in the NGO Sector. Experience on executing and managing programs related to Gender, livelihood development, agribusiness development, marketing, and inclusive development are advantageous.

Required Skills and Competencies:

Fundamental knowledge of concepts of gender equity/gender equality in development, including other forms of inequity, vulnerability, and the intersectionality of these factors;

Proven skill and track record in team work, coordination, partnership building, multi-stakeholder engagement, networking, effective communication & facilitation, problem solving & decision making.

Skill in business plan development and management, strong command of English language and Afaan Oromo (has advantage)

Ability to meet tight deadlines and work independently;

Ability to think and lead strategically while managing details;

Integrity and honesty, hardworking, firm belief in human equality, transparency and respect to others are core values needed.
