The Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations (UEWCA) is a non-governmental consortium of 80 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) focused on empowering and promoting gender equality for women, girls, and children in all regions of Ethiopia. Established in 2010, UEWCA serves as a platform to advocate for its members and beneficiaries, as well as to coordinate the efforts of its member CSOs and stakeholders towards the well-being and empowerment of women, girls, and children in Ethiopia.

Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations (UEWCA) would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following position.

Position 1: CP/GBV Social Worker

Job Description:

  • Compiling and submitting data, and related information on overall communities, IDP, returnees and humanitarian crisis in the target area, with a specific focus on child protection/GBV, and prepare written inputs accordingly to inform effective project implementation.
  • Undertakes regular protection service delivery for vulnerable women, girls and children to recover from the traumatized experiences caused by conflict and forced displacement.
  • Collect information; identify problems and constraints in order to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Participate in meetings with relevant coordination forums, local authorities, other actors and donors to discuss and represent UEWCA work.
  • Facilitate training for various community groups on relevant topics of child protection and gender-based violence sector in partnership with relevant stakeholders and government actors.
  • Prepare and submit reports and other necessary data.
  • Ensure application of standards, guidelines and good practices for children and women protection in emergency related activities

Duty Station: Afar Regional State, Abala Woreda

Reports to: CP/GBV officer

Salary: As per the organization scale

Required: One

Duration: Eight months with the possibility of extension     

Required Professional Experience:

  • University degree in Gender, clinical psychology, psychiatric nurse, public health, clinical nurse sociology, social worker and relevant field of social sciences.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in protection and related areas, program/project local level experience and management in emergency context is required.
  • Proven experience in implementing child protection and GBV trainings to a variety of stakeholders.
  • WGSS management and experience,
  • Working with children, women and adolescents is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience on Gender Based Violence programming including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) an asset.
  • Knowledge and skills of and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including Gender Based Violence. Awareness of or interest in community-based protection mechanisms

Place of work: Abala Woreda, Afar

Position 2: CP/GBV Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the implementation of planned activities,
  • Targeting and engagement of government service providers and community volunteers.
  • .Provide technical support on integration of the survivor-centered approach, complaints mechanisms and enhance access of the CP/GBV protection project.   
  • .Support the development and implementation of programming for specialized CP/GBV protection and response based on needs, risks and capacity assessments at the project site•     
  • Support and build capacity and systems of CP/GBV protection for survivors and persons at-risk of GBV.
  • Ensure safe and ethical GBV data collection and reporting is functioning and regular reporting is done on GBV, including through protection monitoring processes.
  • Build a relationship with all relevant GBV program stakeholders (health, legal, protection, psychosocial) in IDPs and the local community to encourage greater communication, collaboration and coordination among partners from the protection, health, legal, and psychosocial sectors.
  • Follow up the implementation of activities to ensure that Inclusive approach to programming consistently applied through community-based protection methods.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required for the office and project officer.
  • Collaborate with Monitoring and Evaluation personnel for timely evaluation of projects.

Duty Station: Afar Regional State, Abala Woreda

Reports to:  CP/GBV Coordinator

Salary: As per the organization scale

Required: One

Duration: Eight months with the possibility of extension     

Education/Qualification:

University degree in one of the relevant areas- Gender and Development studies, Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Science or Social Science

Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with preferably 2 years of relevant professional work experience in protection and GBV protection.
  • Having experience in the field of CP/ GBV protection project, in CP/GBV prevention, mitigation and response.

Language:

Fluency in English and knowledge on local languages or (Afari) is Mandatory.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of facilitation and coordination strategy to address GBV Protection issues.
  • Demonstrate enhanced knowledge of inclusive programming approach to GBV protection issues.
  • Good understanding of Minimum Standards of GBV in Emergencies Programing.
  • Good understanding of the GBV guiding principles,
  • Applied experience in survivor-centered approach, GBV guiding and Case management principles related to GBV programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls and apply, promote and integrate CP/GBV protection into humanitarian programming.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and implementation of multi-sectorial responses to GBV and support to other sectors to mainstream CP/GBV prevention, risk mitigation and response.
