Position 1: Security Officer, -G4
Within delegated authority, the Security Officer may be responsible for the following duties:
- Provides security services for the protection of persons and property during specified working hours. This includes conducting tour and security control, checking identification cards and permits, and ensuring that unauthorized persons and vehicles are not allowed on the premises. Also responsible for inspecting the grounds and buildings for security risks, enforcing parking regulations, operating security equipment such as CCTV, conducting electronic surveillance, and recording radio messages.
- The Fire and Safety Unit patrols the building and grounds to identify hazards and ensure all alarm systems are working. They inspect and test firefighting equipment, recharge extinguishers, and ensure precautionary signs are in place. They also conduct evacuation drills, respond to emergencies, and investigate the causes of fires and damages. Comprehensive reports are compiled and recommendations made to reduce future accidents.
- Conference squad provides special security coverage for conferences and events including checking conference facilities for bombs and explosives, screening and checking attendees, providing security information to delegates, controlling traffic flow, investigating incidents, and preparing reports for higher level security officers.
- Special security protection and escort services for the Executive Secretary, other dignitaries, and delivery of sensitive materials. This includes providing security coverage and protection for the Executive Secretary both inside and outside the complex, escorting them to official functions and airports. Additionally, the service arranges security protection and escorts for Heads of States and visiting dignitaries, as well as organizing escorts for valuable UN properties, stamps, diplomatic pouches, official documents, and funds. Security assistance and escorts are also provided for staff, delegates, and participants reporting cases to the police and public offices.
- Supervises subordinate security officers in the special security unit, assigns tasks, coordinates monitoring and follows up on assignments. Maintains records, files, and registers of actions and activities.
- Assists with data collection, analysis, and preparation of presentations and reports for information sharing, query response, knowledge management, planning, and decision making.
- Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Carries out any other task as required.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Passing the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) administered at the Duty Station is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration for this post.
Work Experience:
At least three (3) years of experience in security-related works, in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military, police, private security or in a corporate environment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Basic computer skills, such as basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable.
Language:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Position 2: – Senior Statistics Assistant, G7
Within delegated authority, the Statistical Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Collects, evaluates, processes, and analyzes statistical data from a variety of sources using modern technology.
- Processes, classifies and ensures internal consistency of data; reconciles discrepancies in data series.
- Builds special data sets for specific research needs or reports.
- Prepares charts, graphs and other outputs for reporting and presentation of various data.
- Applies tests and executes programmers for specific statistical applications based on specifications provided.
- Maintains relevant computerized databases.
- Respond to internal/external requests on questions related to a specific programme(s).
- Assists in liaising with United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information.
- Prepares data sets upon request, responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages.
- Supervises and guides other general service staff in the function, as needed. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A certificate or higher qualification in data science or technology is an added advantage.
Work Experience:
A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in statistics or related areas, data science/technology or related areas is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to eight (8) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in database design and management is desirable.
Language:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

Position 3: – Staff Assistant, G5
This position is located in the Strategic Planning, Oversight and Results Division (SPORD) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Staff Assistant reports to the Chief of Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation Section (MRES).
Within limits of delegated authority and depending on location, Staff Assistants at this level may be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic, and may not be performed by all Staff Assistants.)
- Performs, under minimal supervision, the full range of office management and administrative support functions; typically provides direct assistance to a senior officer or manager responsible for a major programme, such as a branch or division.
- Maintains liaison with the Executive Office and with senior officials in other units regarding on-going programmes and other administrative matters; monitors processes and schedules related to the unit’s outputs, products, tasks, etc.
- Ensures smooth and efficient information flow within the unit; prepares and processes confidential information; assists in the development of office administrative systems and procedures.
- Researches, compiles and summarizes background materials for use in preparation of reports, briefs, speeches, etc. • Provides assistance in the coordination of service-wide activities (meetings, training, etc.), special projects and events.
- Orients new staff to relevant administrative procedures and practices and provides general assistance to other office support staff, as required; may coordinate the work of office support staff in providing meetings servicing/administrative support to various sessions of commissions and other bodies.
- Attends meetings, prepares minutes, monitors follow-up activities.
- Responds or drafts responses to a wide range of correspondence and other communications; uses standard word processing package to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports.
- Manages, updates and further develops internal databases; updates website; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases.
- Carries out quality control function for outgoing documents; proofreads and edits texts for adherence for format, grammar, punctuation and style.
- Responds to complex information requests and inquiries (e.g. answers requests requiring file search, etc.).
- Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software.
- May provide some specialized support to unit (e.g. technology support, editing, desktop publishing, etc.).
- Maintains calendar/schedules; monitors changes and communicate relevant information to appropriate staff inside and outside the immediate work unit.
- Performs a variety of administrative duties (e.g. leave recording, meeting organization, reservations, office supply and equipment orders, etc.), including preparing and/or processing administrative requests/documents (e.g., travel requests, expense claims, vouchers, visa applications, etc.).
- Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for work unit.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
