United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Economic Commission for Africa Careers: The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is committed to advancing inclusion, gender parity, and diversity in its workforce. This internship will offer a unique opportunity to contribute to ECA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda, particularly in relation to improving outreach strategies and supporting inclusive recruitment practices.
Position: Intern – Macroeconomics, Finance and Governance Division (MAS)
Eligibility Criteria and Requirements:
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements at the time of application:
Academic Requirements:
- Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (i.e. a second-level university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Applicants who have graduated, if selected, must be able to commence the internship within one (1) year of graduation.
- Applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. programme, or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. programme.
- The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship being applied for.
Professional Experience:
- No professional or working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
- However, the applicant’s education, training, advanced coursework, or skills should be relevant and beneficial to the United Nations during the internship period.
Technical Skills:
- Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Good knowledge of the following is required:
- MS Word
- MS PowerPoint
- MS Excel
- MS Teams
Competencies and Personal Attributes:
- Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals and principles of the United Nations Charter.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including:
- Willingness to understand differing opinions and views
- Respect, tolerance, and cultural sensitivity
