Vacancy Announcement – Addis Ababa University Institute for Peace and Security Studies- IPSS
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! Background
The focus on funding for peace and security in Africa is mainly on external donors and financial contributions from African Union member states. However, there is little attention given to whether these member states contribute to conflict prevention at the national level through their own budgets. This lack of attention means that there is no systematic approach to understanding if and how member states invest in conflict prevention, and what impact this has. By examining how member states allocate and distribute their national budgets, we can learn from each other and shift towards a more proactive approach. It is also important to critically and comprehensively define and conceptualize conflict prevention at the national level.
A case study approach will be used to investigate how conflict prevention is perceived and reflected in national budgets, using primary and secondary data tools. The study aims to conceptualize conflict prevention at a national level, compare it to AU/RECs’ position within the Africa Peace and Security Architecture, and determine if each case study country invests in conflict prevention. The Africa Peace and Security Programme and the African Leadership Centre will conduct the study, with support from FES-AU, to produce a Special Peace and Security Report.
