Ethiopia aims to strengthen its primary health care system to provide high-quality health services, particularly for women during pregnancy and childbirth. This includes developing community-based interventions with strong links to local health systems to improve maternal and newborn outcomes. The partnership between Amref, JSI, and local partners is implementing this initiative to address underutilization of facility-based maternal and newborn health care. Implementation research will be used to co-design, test, and generate evidence to inform national strategies.

Amref Health Africa would like to invite qualified and interested job seekers to apply for the following different position.

Position 1: – Individual HCD Consultant

Key Activities and Tasks:

The HCD consultant will undertake the following key activities and tasks to achieve the aforementioned objectives:

1.  Capacity enhancement: The consultant will undertake capacity enhancement activities such as hands-on training, mentoring and coaching for project staff in the application of HCD approach and techniques to solve key health problems and constraints.

2.  Insights generation: S/he will provide technical assistance to use HCD approach and techniques to generate insights and perspectives on the community needs, beliefs, perceptions, motivations, gender roles, and barriers on use of community-based MNH services in a setting with chronic underutilization of facility birth. Prelude to this, the consultant might carry out desk review of existing evidence, literature, national documents, etc. to explore and understand what the factors behind the utilization of facility birth are in way of facilitators and barriers and the behavioral and social drivers behind them.

3.  Co-create context-tailored community-based MNH prototypes and solutions: Informed by the insights on the uptake of community-based MNH services, the consultant will provide technical guidance to apply HCD mindsets, approach and techniques in the co-creation, testing, and iteration of context-tailored community-based MNH prototypes and solutions in a context with chronic underutilization of facility birth.

4.  Technical assistance to apply HCD approach and techniques in gender analysis: The HCD consultant will provide technical assistance to apply HCD approach and techniques throughout the process of gender barrier analysis for MNH services including study design and tool development, data collection, analysis, and programming.

Key deliverables:

The HCD consultant will provide technical guidance to enable Amref Health Africa to achieve the following key deliverables. Therefore, the gender consultant will be accountable to these deliverables.

  • Project staff received hands-on training, mentorship and coaching in the application of HCD approach on their program design work
  • A report on insights of community needs, barriers, and barriers into the uptake of community-based MNH services and possible intervention opportunities produced
  • A report on context-tailored community-based MNH prototypes and solutions produced  
  • HCD approach and techniques applied in gender-barrier analysis and programming

Required Experience:

  • Advanced degree in design management innovation, social science, and another related degree with HCD savvy
  • Have at least 5 years of practical experience in the HCD space
  • Working experience and a good understanding of the Ethiopian community health system and primary healthcare
  • Experience in conducting HCD and anthropological study
  • Previous experience in applying human-centered design techniques to design health interventions is an additional asset
  • Experience in working in the gender space including gender analysis
  • Published work HCD
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with government, NGO, and local stakeholders’ essential
  • Analytical and conceptual ability, demonstrated understanding of social research methods
  • High-quality English report writing and strategy development.

APPLICATION FORM – INDIVIDUAL HCD CONSULTANT

Position 2: National Kefeta Youth SACCO Accountant

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing tax returns, filing and ensuring that the Sacco complies with all tax regulations.
  • Preparation of Society interim & final accounts and assist external auditors in completing audits within the specified deadlines.
  • Liaise with internal /External Auditors on audit queries and replies on management letters.
  • Recording and maintaining accurate and up to date book of accounts in accordance with IFRSs.
  • Ensuring the Society assets and liabilities are recorded correctly and safeguarded.
  • Regular reconciliation and management of account payables and account receivables.
  • Ensuring Bank and cash reconciliation are done within the set timelines as per the Sacco’s policies.
  • Safeguarding Sacco physical assets by maintaining an updated asset register in liaison with the procurement office.
  • Analyze general ledger processes, identify and adjust for errors and mis postings.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and reconciliation of control accounts and review of journal entries.
  • Oversee proper filing of finance documents and expenses vouchers.
  • Providing branch support in all accounting related queries.
  • Timely Preparation and submission of SASRA monthly Returns.
  • Payroll verification.
  • Oversee preparation and timely payment of all statutory deductions.
  • Preparation of budget variance analysis on a monthly basis and make recommendations,
  • Oversee processing and verification of invoices and payments within set timelines
  • Preparation and processing of dividends schedule upon approval by the AGM.
  • Prepare monthly cash flow projections on a monthly basis.
  • Keeps custody of the Sacco cheques books.
  • Oversee management and reconciliation of Sacco system.
  • Verification of suppliers
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Academic Qualification:

BA Degree in Cooperative Accounting, Finance and Accounting, or related fields

Required Experience:

  • Have a minimum of 4 years of experience in SACCOs, Microfinance and Banks.
  • Outstanding communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Good Knowledge and skills of accounting software’s with high proficiency in working with MS Excel and generating on-demand reports
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Position 3: – Youth Friendly Health Service Provider (YFHS) Intern

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take proper history, physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment for clients
  • Refer cases with justifiable diagnoses and follow up on the progress of the patient/client on the update
  • Give proper counseling, VCT, psychosocial support, and, Family planning, SRH and rehabilitation
  • Facilitate linkage within the health center and to other health service spots outside the positioned center as well as strive to work on establishing a partnership
  • Proper and full documentation of cases in the log book/tally sheet/database of the clients
  • Have updated information regarding YFS and SRH
  • Incorporate the values and approaches of YFS practically
  • Give Health Education to clients and communities
  • Follow up, document, and report stock out medications
  • Proper handling of expired products and medications
  • Submit bi-monthly, quarter, biannual and annual reports
  • Respect colleagues, have a positive work spirit
  • Meeting with youth, to discuss their vision toward their health plans
  • Conduct assessments and participate in outreach programs when required
  • Synthesize assessments and outline major findings and recommendations on ways forward
  • Actively engage in and contribute to the different consultation meetings, forums, and internal discussion
  • Effectively utilize the Amref information management system, HR information system and other financial platforms (ERP)
  • Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Academic Qualifications:

BA/BSc Degree in Business Management, Management, Business Administration, Economics, Public Health, and related fields

Required Experience:

Maximum of 1-year experience in internship and community volunteer service

Experience in youth service provision

Required Number of Interns:

Three (3)
