Position 1: Protection Officer- Case Management
Location: Zone 2, Afar
Employment Category: H2
Reporting To: Protection Manager
Required Employee: 1
Salary: USD 540.00 to USD 656.00 based on your work experience and educational qualification
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the delivery of case management in line with global SOPs and standards.
- Effectively use and comply with all the tools, forms and SOPs related to case management as communicated by the Protection Manager. Comply with applicable professional standards related to protection and humanitarian interventions.
- Operate in close alignment with referral pathways agreed at interagency level.
- Coordinate closely with service providers to ensure survivors and individuals at risk of right violations are provided with high quality service provision (including medical assistance, mental health support and material assistance)
- Ensure proper documentation of case data and information in line with the case management guiding principles, adhering to the confidentiality principle. Ensure to abide by all information-sharing protocols in place.
- Ensure that individuals in need of protection services and/or assistance are timely and adequately referred to the relevant services. Conduct regular and systematized follow-up of all referred cases to ensure adequate service provision, reassess needs and potentially identify any new trends.
- Conduct awareness and capacity-building activities with communities in safe and suitable locations.
- Conduct any other programme activities related to the provision of protection services and assistance as instructed by the Protection Manager.
- Mobilize and build strong rapport with communities, adhering to dignified, culturally sensitive approaches.
Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an entry to mid-level position in humanitarian protection or relevant social service field;
- Experience in direct implementation of protection activities relevant to the AoR for the position;
- Proven record of community engagement and consultation, such as assessments, trainings, workshops, or awareness sessions
- Technical understanding of core protection concepts, prevention and response strategies in line with best practices and ethical data collection and data protection protocols;
- Experience in identifying and responding to needs of particular vulnerable individuals of people of concern based on protection risks, age, gender, and diversity analysis, and/ or other criteria;
- Strong planning, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team;
- Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure;
- Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures;
- Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; proficiency in Kobo and other data collection/analysis tools desirable

University degree in law, social work, social science or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
Language:
- Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English and Amharic required.

Position 2: Protection officer (Protection Monitoring)

Responsibilities: (in bullet points)
- Implement assigned protection monitoring activities in line with international standards, best practices, and DRC protection monitoring guidelines
- Maintain good relationships with other stakeholders to collect daily information on fresh displacements in the area of coverage.
- Produce protection monitoring reports on a regular basis
- Provide ongoing mentorship and technical support to the protection focal points in the areas of intervention
- Ensure the provision of effective protection services and referrals.
- Identify individuals with special needs and the types of assistance needed.
- Collaborate with relevant partners to develop and maintain protection referral mechanisms.
- Contribute to the development of protection monitoring tools and to the analysis of the collected information
- Ensure protection mainstreaming in all of DRC’s interventions.
- Monitor protection trends and needs in DRC’s areas of intervention and recommend activities and responses for DRCs and other agencies.
- Ensure ethical and statistically-sound data collection, analysis, and protection monitoring reports procedures
- Analyze disaggregated protection-related data as a means to inform programming and response activities.
- Contribute to the monthly progress report as well as cluster 5ws
- Regularly monitor the project’s protection activities and provide feedback for ensuring activities are responsive, and contextually and culturally appropriate.
- Assisting in developing and conducting assessments, mid-term and end of project reports, and evaluations.
- Ensure DRC’s accountability commitments are mainstreamed into all protection activities.
- Support in the development of daily, weekly and monthly reports.
- Ensure proper documentation of all project activities including means of verification, assessments, and case studies.
Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
- University degree in a relevant field (e.g. psychology, social work, social or gender studies)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an entry to mid-level position in humanitarian protection or relevant social service field;

Position 3: Protection Manager
Reporting To: Base or Area Manager
Start of Contract & Duration: 12 Months

Salary: USD 1,445 to USD 1757 per month which specific amount will be determined upon the candidate & experience and educational relevancy
Overall Purpose of the Role:
The Protection Manager will be responsible for the design, implementation, and technical oversight of DRC Ethiopia’s Protection activities in Afar region, including protection monitoring, individual protection assistance, community-based protection, and psychosocial support for displacement-affected communities. The position holder will guide implementation, provide technical guidance to the protection team, and ensure proper procedures are followed for procurement, finance, and HR requirements, as well as timely and quality reporting. S/he will collaborate closely with DRC’s Country Office Protection Manager to ensure technical rigor and consistent application of DRC’s protection approaches, methods, and tools. This position will additionally focus on the potential scale-up of DRC’s interventions within Afar, including providing inputs for proposals and protection mainstreaming support for multi-sectoral teams.
Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or another relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an entry to mid-level position in the field of humanitarian protection for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or local authority.
- Prior experience in emergency response to displacement and/or conflict context is required
- Experience with design and implementation of protection interventions
- Excellent writing and editing skills for external audiences (including governments and donors)
- Proven commitment to accountability and quality assurance.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Experience with capacity building and organizing and facilitating training and workshops.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective and working relations with staff members and other stakeholders.
- Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures.
- Full proficiency in Microsoft Office.

University degree in gender studies, social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution
Language: (indicate fluency level)
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
