Ethiopia’s first forensic DNA testing laboratory inaugurated

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Commissioner General of the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, Demelash Gebremichael, said the laboratory will help improve the investigative capacity of the Ethiopian police.
He said there is a shortage of qualified professionals for the investigation and it will help provide accurate and reliable information on the justice system.
He noted that in the past, various criminal and criminal cases were investigated only by fingerprints, which focused on the use of fingerprints left in the crime scene.
They say that starting a forensic DNA or genetic laboratory test can detect the presence of a substance in a person by examining different fluids and similar substances in the crime scene.
The laboratory is equipped with bone and other genetic testing equipment.
The laboratory will also be able to create a database and exchange information with international police to increase its ability to prevent cross-border crime.
