Job Summary
The Public Relations and Communication Expert III will be responsible for enhancing the institute’s visibility, managing institutional reputation, and ensuring the effective dissemination of public health information. The expert will work to bridge the communication gap between EPHI, its stakeholders (MOH, RHBs, International Partners), and the general public. This role involves strategic content creation, media engagement, and crisis communication management to support EPHI’s mission in research, laboratory capacity building, and emergency management.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Communication: Develop and implement comprehensive communication and media strategies to promote EPHI’s achievements in public health, including Global Fund-supported laboratory activities.
Content Production: Draft high-quality press releases, newsletters, brochures, and speeches in both English and Amharic.
Media Relations: Act as a focal point for media inquiries, coordinate press conferences, and maintain a robust network with national and international journalists.
Digital Presence: Manage and update the institute’s official website and social media platforms with timely, accurate, and engaging content.
Event Coordination: Organize and document workshops, seminars, and high-level field visits for stakeholders and donors.
Crisis Management: Monitor media trends and public perception to provide rapid, evidence-based responses to misinformation or public health emergencies.
Internal Communication: Facilitate seamless information flow between EPHI directorates to ensure brand consistency and internal awareness of institutional milestones.
Reporting: Track communication metrics and generate regular performance reports for the PR Executive Office.
About You
1. Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Language & Literature, International Relations, or a related field.
2. Work Experience: Minimum of 4 years of proven work experience in public relations, journalism, or corporate communications.
Experience in the health sector or working with government agencies/NGOs is highly preferred.
Demonstrated experience in digital content management and media engagement.
3. Core Competencies & Skills:
Bilingual Proficiency: Exceptional writing and speaking skills in Amharic and English are mandatory.
Technical Literacy: Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Skills in graphic design (Adobe Photoshop/InDesign) or video editing are a significant advantage.
Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to build relationships with media houses, government officials, and community leaders.
Adaptability: Ability to handle high-pressure situations and meet strict deadlines, especially during public health crises.
