Position 1: Head of Operations
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Your duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Ensure occupational safety and environmental care standards are met and guidelines properly followed in all operational activities according to both Ethiopian and company standards.
- Ensure that company policies and code of conduct are adhered to by all staff members within the departments under you.
- Be responsible for meeting company gold production targets and all mining and processing related activities.
- Create and implement short-, medium- and long-term plans in support of achieving company targets.
- Monitor production costs and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Be responsible for the performance of the underground mining operations being undertaken by the mining contractor to maintain strict safety standards and ensure the delivery of company objectives.
- Be responsible for the performance of the processing plant operations being undertaken and to maintain strict safety standards and ensure the delivery of company objectives.
- Be responsible for consumption of consumables, managing expenditure and procurement processes (with the support of separate procurement, finance and compliance teams).
- Be responsible for the implementation of mining, mineral and infrastructure projects; as designed by company consultants.
- Manage, facilitate, collaborate, and liaise with contractors and other stakeholders in order to achieve company targets.
- Plan, organize, and execute daily development and production activities of the mine, processing plant, and maintenance to attain company targets through efficient allocation and utilization of resources;
- Prepare and track annual operational budgets and schedules;
- Introduce and apply continuous improvement processes and look for best practices in the industry for potential application in the operation;
- Carry out and collaborate in recruiting staff and organizing personnel development through training and others;
- Prepare operational strategy of the production, in the short, medium, and long term to ensure company goals are achieved;
- Manage the process of reviewing mining machinery specifications and selection, plan availability, utilization, and productivity requirements, and establish related maintenance setup;
- Introduce a performance monitoring system of key indicators for the development and the production stages and strive to continuously improve and optimize the operation periodically;
- Follow and collaborate with wider exploration personnel of the company to conceptualize and plan potential future expansions proactively;
- Assist colleagues whenever necessary; and
- Perform other site and office duties as assigned
Essential qualities and qualifications:
The successful candidate does not necessarily need to have experience of the mining industry, but will:
- Be honest and transparent, and have a proven track record in delivering upon targets for health and safety in addition to production.
- Be target driven and results oriented.
- Be an independent and self motivated manager and team leader
- Speak and write excellent English and Amharic.
- Hold a postgraduate qualification in engineering, preferably mining engineering or a related discipline.
- Have a minimum of 15 years experience in the mining industry, including at least 5 years’ experience of leading teams of minimum 50 people.
- If no experience or qualifications in the mining industry, the successful candidate will have minimum 15 years experience in heavy industry* of which 5 years’ involves leading teams of more than 100 people.
- Have experience with implementation and management of large engineering projects.
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders
- Be a skilled leader and manager who is capable of simultaneously overseeing and managing several departments and middle managers simultaneously.
- *Heavy industry being defined as operations using several departments operating heavy mobile plant, large moving machinery and/or complex chemical operations. Heavy industry typically includes: Automobile, mining, petroleum, and steel industries.
Desirable qualities and qualifications:
The successful candidate will:
- Have knowledge of Ethiopian mining regulations and environmental standards.
- Be capable of leveraging publicly available artificial intelligence systems to improve productivity (eg ChatGPT, https://openai.com).

Position 2: Senior Accountant
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations of Etno Mining. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, several years of experience in the mining industry, and a strong understanding of Ethiopian tax and accounting regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, examine, and analyze financial statements and accounting records to assess accuracy, completeness and confirm reporting and procedural standards
- Prepare statement of accounts periodically for all debtors & creditors.
- Prepare statement of reconciliation for debtors and creditors.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment of invoices and accurate record-keeping
- Manage inter company transactions with Group companies
- Manage month end close in a timely and efficient manner together with Group Finance
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledgers on a regular basis
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations for improvement to management
- Ensure compliance with Ethiopian accounting and tax regulations
- Supervise accounting staff and provide training and support as needed
- Collaborate with other departments within the company to ensure accurate financial reporting and forecasting
- Participate in the development of budgets and financial plans
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 5 years of experience preferably from the mining industry
- Strong understanding of Ethiopian tax regulations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite
- IFRS practical training on implementation or at least ACCA active student who passed Financial reporting (FR)
