John Snow, Inc. (JSI) is a US-based public health nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality technical and managerial assistance programs throughout the world. In Ethiopia, JSI has been working to improve health outcomes for more than 25 years, implementing more than 60 projects and working in every region. JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality, and equity in access of, RMNCAH services, primary health care (PHC) including community health program, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.

John Snow, Inc. (JSI) would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: – Team Lead: Training and Innovation

Duties and Responsibilities

·       Work closely with the DCOP and other team leaders to meet key milestones and deliverables, monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot any challenges to Activity implementation.

·       Provide sound leadership and high-level technical guidance to DCOP, MOH, technical advisors, area implementation team and partners.  

·       Represent the Activity in various technical meetings, working groups, and conferences.

·       Interact with other organizations working on  capacity building, digital health, emergency care, and private sectors to capture best practices and establish collaboration.

·       Take a lead role and serve as key resource person in the process of developing and reviewing program strategies, thematic plans and annual plans and reports in the area of training and innovation.

·       Participate in the project management and USAID team meeting as required and provide updates on innovative/strategic approaches.

·       Collaborate with MEL and Communication team to establish a monitoring system (e.g., indicators and data collection methodologies) to track reach of training and innovations; ensure that lessons learned from project implementation with regards to training and innovation inform field discourse and programmatic decisions at all levels and participate in the development and implementation of a learning agenda and research agenda for the project.

·       Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Advanced Degree in public health, health system management/administration or related field(additional training on curriculum development preferred)
  • At least 10 years of progressively increasing technical leadership, including experience with direct supervision of professional staff, preferably with a program of an equivalent size and scope is highly desired. Experience in designing competence based training and managing capacity building efforts is required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and team work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID’s policies, priorities and projects.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience of working along the health system – from community, primary health care units and referral hospitals and proven track record of training program development and management as well innovation management.
  • Experience of interacting with local governments, international organizations, other bilateral donor and civil society representatives, and senior level government officials is desired.
  • Experience managing and coordinating USAID-funded complex multi-sectoral development programs, in Ethiopia is desired
  • Speaking of more than one local language is a plus.

Position 2: – Team Lead: Emergency Response

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the DCOP and other team leaders to meet key milestones and deliverables, monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot any challenges to Activity implementation.
  • Provide sound leadership and high-level technical guidance to DCOP, MOH, and EPHI, technical advisors, area implementation team and partners. 
  • Maintain ongoing surveillance of emergency situations, including post-conflict situations, in QHA implementation areas and advise QHA team accordingly to ensure adaptive management
  • Collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to develop, revise, and implement health service rehabilitation including construction and quality improvement in post-conflict/emergency situations
  • Represent the Activity in various technical meetings, working groups, and conferences.
  • Interact with other organizations working on emergency response and resilience building to capture best practices and establish collaboration.
  • Work closely with MOH and partners to support essential services availability including sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) during emergencies through various coordination mechanisms
  • Take a lead role and serve as key resource person in the process of developing and reviewing emergency response program strategies, thematic plans and annual plans and reports as well as rapid assessments, sitreps, etc.
  • Participate in the project management and USAID team meeting as required and provide updates on innovative/strategic approaches.
  • Collaborate with MEL and Communication team to establish a monitoring system (e.g., indicators and data collection methodologies) to track quality and reach of emergency responses related activities; ensure that lessons learned from project implementation inform field discourse and programmatic decisions at all levels and participate in the development and implementation of a learning agenda and research agenda for the project.

Job Requirements

Strong experience in Public health emergency response and health facility rehabilitation required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID’s policies, priorities and projects.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience of working along the health system – from community, primary health care units and referral hospitals
  • Experience of interacting with local governments, international organizations, other bilateral donor and civil society representatives, and senior level government officials is desired.
  • Experience managing and coordinating USAID-funded complex multi-sectoral development programs, in Ethiopia is desired.
  • Speaking of more than one local language is a plus.

Position 3: – Operations Assistant (Consultant for six months)

Posting Location: Addis Ababa

Duration: 6 months

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

● Prepare a draft Request for Quotation as per approved Purchase requests and submit to respective person;

●   Follow up of vendors on timely submission of proforma invoices;

●   Prepare a draft Purchase Order and submit to respective person;

●  Conduct Visual compliance screening;

● Assist in communicating suppliers on delivery of items, checking items during delivery and GRN preparation; 

● Scanning and filing of different procurement/logistics related documents;

●  Facilitate signature on different procurement and other required documents;

●  Record current market prices for different category of goods/services and prepare for budget information;

● Draft vehicle maintenance request letter and maintain documentation along with vehicle history;

● Provide support and work closely with the procurement and logistics officer to review payment requests of different vendors, confirmation of supportive documents inclusion, incorporate feedbacks and follow up with finance on timely payments;

● Support in proof of delivery reconciliation from Y1 to YIV donation items and report clear information.

●  Work closely with ware house officer to maintain clear fixed asset records, identify any discrepancies and resolve by providing supportive documents;

● Perform any other duties as required and/or assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Applicants for this position should possess the following qualifications:

●  Diploma or higher education in office management, business management, logistics or related field

●  At least three years’ experience in NGO sector especially in the areas of procurement / logistics support or operations management, preferably with increasing responsibilities.

● Proficiency in computer software, such as Windows, Word, Excel.

●  Knowledge of computer networking systems, email systems, and internet.

●  Good communications and interpersonal skills
