The organization aims to promote and advocate for human rights by increasing the participation and contribution of lawyers in human rights through training and capacity-building activities. LHR supports lawyers across the nation in exchanging ideas and experiences for better human rights protection. They also litigate before courts and other relevant bodies to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights as recognized under the FDRE Constitution and other laws. LHR creates awareness among justice organs about international human rights instruments ratified by Ethiopia. They provide free or low-cost legal services for victims of human rights violations, particularly disadvantaged communities. LHR also lobbies the government to enact new laws or amend existing ones to provide full protection for human rights. Additionally, LHR familiarizes lawyers with the concept of human rights defenders (HRD). The organization has engaged with various national and international stakeholders such as OHCHR East Africa Regional Office (EARO), National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA), USAID Justice Activity Project, Freedom House (FH), Civil Rights Defenders (CRD), French Development Agency (AFD), Project Expedite Justice (PEJ), and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) to achieve its objectives.
Lawyers for Human Rights would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.
Position 1: Project Accountant
JOB Review
LHR is looking for a Project Accountant, who will be responsible for cash management, documentation, making authorized payments, recording, summarizing, and analyzing financial statements of the project with a demonstrated knowledge of financial policies, procedures, donor compliance and systems with excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills.
The Project Accountant will collaborate with the project team in the head office staff and provide a comprehensive and effective financial and administrative service. The Project Accountant will assist the Head of Administration and Finance in ensuring that it is well supported in all areas of Finance & administration, contributing to the work efficiency of the organization.
Job Description
Duties and responsibilities of the employee:
- Prepared Cash and Bank Transaction vouchers/Journals, Cash and Bank Reconciliations.
- Post payments correctly under the appropriate budget lines and codes.
- Performs monthly desk review of the financial documents to ensure completeness of supporting documents received for early spot of irregularities.
- Prepare and update monthly staff benefits, tax schedules, and follow up the payments as well as the tax settlement.
- Ensures that all entries are properly documented, and all transactions are backed up with complete required documentation that is properly dated and signed.
- Maintains bank and cash transactions journal.
- Prepares check requests vouchers and payment vouchers ensuring that all supporting documents are completed before payment.
- Makes sure that backup documentation for cash disbursements is duly approved and on file prior making cash payments.
- Prepare all the necessary documents in line with assigned projects and facilitate external and internal audits and financial reviews.
- Facilitate on liaising with auditors to ensure annual monitoring is carried out smoothly and accordingly.
- Participate in producing accurate quarter and final financial reports to specific deadlines.
- Participate in office management: Maintain the office petty cash, office inventory, and stationary supplies and utility services maintenance.
- Handle petty cash funds.
- Prepare on time a petty cash replenishment document with the cash count balance.
- Information Management: Develop and maintain relevant databases and filing systems for optimal management of information and contacts.
- Prepare and organize documents of financial & administration.
- Photocopying, scanning, printing, and filling all financial documents.
- Keep a smooth working relationship in the office.
- Undertakes other duties as required that might be assigned by supervisors.

Job Requirements
Required Skills and Experience:
- BA degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, or other relevant subject
- At least 4(four) years’ experience and a minimum of 2 years project related work experience
- CSO/NGO experience has a plus advantage.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in changing situations.
- Experience in using accounting software (QuickBooks, Peachtree,) is a requirement.
- Ability to manage filing systems quickly and systematically.
- Use of excel, word processing, email is a requirement.

Position 2: Project Officer
Job overview:
LHR is looking for a Project Officer, who will be responsible for managing, implementing and following up the day-to-day management of the project and procedures, with a demonstrated knowledge of program/project policies, procedures, donor compliance and systems with excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills.
Job Description:
The Project Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of LHR’s project and interventions. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently (autonomously with loose supervision) but equally a good team player, has strong administrative and project management skills, as well as the delivery of the project milestones in accordance with the deadlines. Knowledge of human rights and humanitarian law, transitional justice, and advocacy is also mandatory. The Project officer must have strong communication skills as well as professional interpersonal skills.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Project Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Ensure the implementation and follow-up of the project activities as set out in the project document, work plans, and other related documents;
- Ensure operational management of the project stated above and delivery of results in accordance with the project documents and work plans;
- Prepare terms of reference, training, and workshop schedules and upon approval, facilitate the selection of consultants and organize workshops training , and roundtable discussions;
- Take part in regular meetings with the donor, prepare monthly and quarterly reports, upon approval communicate with the donor organization;
- ensure the proper communication of project results through LHR communication channels in collaboration with other staffs working on communications;
- Ensure compliance with respective donor’s project management policies and procedures;
- plan, organize and facilitate workshops, training, and prepare proceedings;
- Assist the Program Coordinator in planning and coordination of projects and their activities;
- ensure project activity implementations are in line with the available budgetary resources and annual plan.
- Work to keep projects on schedule, within stated budgets, and functioning smoothly;
- Develop concept notes and project proposals in collaboration with other program staffs to ensure sustainability of the project activities;
- Contributing to LHR’s publications, briefing papers, training materials, legal opinions, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required by the Program Coordinator and the Executive Director.

Required Skills and Experience:
- First degree or Masters in Law, specializations in human rights law or Transitional Justice is preferred;
- Proven experience in project management or project officer positions for a minimum of two (3) years in projects related to human rights advocacy;
- Knowledge of civil society con text, human rights situation and transitional justice in Ethiopia;
- Experience in working with relevant projects from the governmental and non-governmental institutions;
- Experience in developing terms of reference, concept notes project proposals, and reports;
- able to use computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel);
- Fluency in Amharic & English is required (both spoken and written)
