Position 1: NRM & Climate Services Specialist (Re-advertisement)

General Position Summary:

Under the leadership of the NRM & Climate services Coordinator, the NRM and Climate Services Specialist is required to manage the climate risk solution of the program in promoting participatory NRM, early warning and disaster risk management.  This position requires someone who understands the role of culture and local communities in managing climate-based information and has deep experience in facilitating participatory early warning committees to develop plans to strengthen the community’s resilience against drought.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Risk Management, Natural Resource Management or other related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Desirably: master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management, Climatology, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering or other related field
  • A minimum of five years of experience in relevant sectors like DRR, NRM, Livelihood, EW,etc
  • Experience in conducting CVCA and ion of Participatory Scenario Planning, specific experience in Somali Region is a benefit.
  • Analytical skill and good research background
  • Fluency both in English and Somali is required

  • Fluent in English and Somali languages (capable in all require basic skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing);
  • Business minded, entrepreneurial, adaptive, curious, great problem-solving skills, unafraid to ask questions, and results motivated.

Position 2: Finance Assistant

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Three years and more progressive experience in the non-profit organization and mainly experience gained in the INGO is required.
  • Experience working with WFP and USAID/DFID grants at least for two years
  • Diploma/First Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related discipline. Compensating Education + Experience can be considered.
  • Demonstrated competency with computerized general ledger software
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly in Excel
  • Prior management experience and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written English skills

Position 3: Finance officer

General Position Summary:

Working in the Finance Department of Gambela under the direction of Senior Finance Officer, the Finance Officer will assist in the accounting and documentation of all financial transactions in timely and accurate manner.  Finance Officer will be based in Gambela; have shared responsibilities for the Gambela Coordination office but with particular focus for the finance and accounting of Gambela iga field office.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Two or more years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, including experience with double-entry accounting
  • A degree in accounting or a relevant business field

Position 4: – MEL Officer

General Position Summary:

The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer will work with the Mercy Corps MEL team specially the MEL specialist with respective region and MEL manger who will based in Addis as well as our local partner organizations to oversee and ensure the collection of quality M&E data for the program.  The M&E Officer will be responsible for supporting the HRA Program to oversee the routine monitoring data collection, lead surveys, analyze data to provide insight to the project team, and contribute to report writing. The MEL officer will be an integral member of the project team learning and reflection processes, leading discussion on beneficiary feedback.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, statistics, monitoring and evaluation, or related field is required or demonstrated equivalent work experience in the field.
  • At least three years’ experience in monitoring
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing data for quality and accuracy.
  • Experience writing short technical reports
  • Previous experience working other international NGOs are strongly preferred
  • Proficient in tablet-based data collection
  • Effective English oral and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills are necessary
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required
  • Strong communication with local languages

Position 5: Grant and Compliance Specialist (re-advertisement)

General Position Summary:

 The Mercy Corps Finance Department is responsible for all financial functions, including accounting, payments and banking, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and grant financial management and compliance.  The Mercy Corps Finance Department ensures compliance with donor regulations as well as Mercy Corp’s internal policies and procedures.  As a support to the Program Technical Department, the Finance Department provides timely reports and assistance to the Country Director and the Program team to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively.

The Grant and Compliance Specialist is a member of the senior finance management team and supervised by the Finance Manager. He/she will be responsible for the day-to-day routine tasks of the Grant and Compliance Specialist role as well as monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. She/he is expected to produce reliable, accurate and timely financial report/information for all stake holders involved in. The post holder should be forward looking, self-driven operating under minimum supervision, and critical thinker in their role.  Furthermore, considering the various expected systemic changes in future, the post holder should be forward looking, change oriented and able to develop/train the team capacity in the changing environment.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Five years and more progressive experience in the non-profit organization and mainly experience gained in the INGO is required.
  • Mandatory experience in managing SIDA & HILTON FOUNDATION grants at least for two consecutive years.
  • First Degree or preferably master’s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance or related discipline. Compensating Education + Experience can be considered.
  • Demonstrated competency with computerized general ledger software.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly in Excel
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Prior grant management experience with SIDA and HILTON will be a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills.
