Project Mercy Ethiopia is an international non-profit humanitarian organization working in different regions of Ethiopia to improve the well-being and livelihood of people in rural communities.

Project Mercy would like to invite qualified and interested job seekers to apply for the following different positions.

Position 1: Senior Accountant

Job summary

Overseeing local financial management, including project-spending patterns against budget projections, preparation of financial reports, oversight of funds, and compliance with local laws and donor regulations and practices.

Assists in the preparation of vouchers invoices and account statements and reports. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and periodically reviewing, reconciling, balancing accounting records and ensuring all financial procedures are implemented.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain proper documentation of financial transactions using the available software.
  • Coordinate country office financial planning and budgeting functions.
  • Participate in the development, implementation & evaluation of sound financial management system.
  • Facilitate the timely submission of financial documents at the close of monthly accounts.
  • Facilitate the mailing financial reports and financial documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and accounts for project offices as well as for Head office.
  • Facilitate and prepare monthly financial reports.
  • Compiles and sorts of documents, such as invoices and cheques, substantiating transactions.
  • Effect Per-diem payment and maintain proper documentation of such payments.
  • Facilitate payments to vendors and check the availability of supporting financial documents.
  • Follow upon time sheets and submit for payroll processing.
  • Assist Audit undertaking.
  • Managing petty cash fund
  • Verifies and posts details of transactions, such as funds received and disbursed and total accounts.
  • Computes and records charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods.
  • Prepares vouchers, invoices, cheques, account statements, reports, and other records.
  • Is responsible for budget operation including reports
  • Reconciles bank statements.
  • Prepare tax reports like payroll tax, withholding tax, Pension, and timely settlement of the above-mentioned taxes to Federal Tax Authority and Regional Bureaus as per Requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.

Reports to: Finance Manager

Job Requirements

Education:

  • BA Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and related
  • Skill sand Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, good Knowledge of computer skills in Microsoft MS-Office, Quick Books, and related accounting software.
  • Preferably Certified with IFRS, IPSAS and other related trainings.
  • Required excellent command of communication in written and verbal in both English and Amharic.
  • NGO work experience is an advantage.

Position 2:  Deputy Elementary School Principal

Job summary

We are seeking to hire an experienced, highly motivated, and qualified person to undertake vice school principal role in first and medium grade Medhane-Alem school. The incumbent will be responsible to assist the principal in all areas of school administration and leadership. He/she will also assist in the formulation of policies, organizational plans goals and objectives in order to develop and maintain an educationally effective school of excellence.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Principal to discuss the implementation of school policies and programs.
  • Assist the Principal in supervising and evaluating all staff.
  • Assist the Principal in assigning teachers to special duties
  • Assist the Principal in organizing the promotion ceremony.
  • Administer the setup of homerooms.
  • Assume responsibility of attendance and discipline.
  • Assist in the supervision of student activities which may occur in the evening or weekends.
  • Prepare student for local, regional and federal reports.
  • Arrange and conduct State and Local Assessment tests.
  • Complete reports for national and regional assessment tests.
  • Assume responsibility for the documentation needed for mandated programs.
  • Arrange for class coverage in case of teacher absence.
  • Assume the responsibility of student scheduling at the direction of the Principal.
  • Assist the Principal in interpreting school programs to the community.
  • Meet with teachers, students, parents/guardians as needed.
  • Assist the Principal in conducting orientation for incoming students.
  • Assume responsibility for coordinating student/teacher and student/observer
  • assignments.
  • Assist the Principal in identifying areas related to the functioning of the school which can be computerized.
  • Assist the Principal in reviewing new textbooks.
  • Arrange personal time schedule to meet the requirements of the position of deputy principal.
  • Be knowledgeable of district and school goals and programs.
  • Maintain an effective, positive working relationship with staff.
  • Assist the Principal in arranging in-service workshops.
  • Prepare and submit all reports, as requested by Principal, in proper writing and/or oral style and structure.
  • Portray an effective role model for staff, students, parents/guardians, community members.
  • Performs other duties which may be assigned by his/her superior(s) under authority of the Board of Education.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in education, educational leadership or other related discipline.
  • Preferable if candidate has gone through CPD.

Work Experience:

Must have completed three (3) years of successful teaching in grades (1-8)

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Through knowledge of rules and regulation of Ministry of Education, regarding to primary schools.
  • Good command of verbal and written communication in both Amharic and English. Advanced skill in operation computers.
