Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other childbirth injuries.

Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin established HFE in 1974 G.C. HFE has been caring for the women of Ethiopia for more than 60 years. Including our main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, we have five regional hospitals, rehabilitation and reintegration center and The Hamlin College of Midwives. We deploy midwives into rural health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these facilities.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: – Junior Social Worker

Job Summary

To increase skill power and to empower in and ex-patients living in Desta Mender psychologically, socially and economically in order to facilitate smooth Rehabilitation and Re-integration activities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient’s needs, both at Admission and Exist Phase as per the HFE’s HMIS system.
  • Identify and refer patients according to the admission assessment gaps, needs to different R&R services.
  • Work closely with RR team and medical staff especially Psychiatry Nurse, so as to facilitate smooth discharge of patients after treatment.
  • Develop an individual action plan for each ex-patient referred to social worker and assess methods of improvement so as to increase impact on clients’ lives.
  • Conduct visits to outreach centers and ensure that programs are adequately addressing clients’ needs.
  • To keep records and files detailing meetings and status of client and submit in a weekly and monthly report to the Learning/Training Coordinator as per the specified R & R KPIs and other related reporting formats.
  • To develop strong network with social agencies and NGOs to find available resources for clients’ re-integration strategies.
  • To arrange post-treatment psycho-social and life-skills training together with Psychiatry Nurse for patients.
  • Provide one-to-one counseling and group counseling at least for three sessions (both at AAFH and DM activities)
  • Giving copying mechanism training for their psychological problems (both at AAFH and DM activities and client’s improvement on their psychological problems
  • To perform other related duties as requested by the supervisor/R&R Manager

Reports to: Reintegration and Rehabilitation Manager

Place of Work: Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program Center: Desta Mender, 17 km away from Addis Ababa- located in Oromiya region Burayu town- Tatek Industrial Area.

Mode of Employment: For six months Contract

 Graduated from Recognized Institute in BA Degree in social science fields (Sociology, Social Anthropology, Social Psychology and other related fields.)

Work Experience:

 Two years experience     

Position 2: – Women Empowerment Program Coordinator

Job Summary:

One of HFE’s Pillar is Rehabilitation and Reintegration. One of the RR’s activity is to run Women Empowerment Program which mainly works on the improvement of the social, economic, Psychological, Spiritual  and physical well-being of the poor women in particular Fistula affected  and the community in general. RR envisions seeing Those Poor Ethiopian women empowered. The mission of RR is to create conducive environment for those women to realize and utilize their potentials for sustained livelihood. The role will ensure that all the project activities and outcomes are aligned to realizing HFE’s Strategy on Women Empowering Program.

Currently, HFE is seeking to hire competent, qualified and interested candidate on Women Empowerment Program Coordinator who coordinates programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop annual and quarter action plans.
  • Prepare implementation guidelines for the programs under her /his coordination.
  • Work as member of Program Designing Team (PDT) and contributes in production of sound concept notes and proposals.
  • Conduct regular and participatory monitoring to ensure proper implementation of project activities.
  • Compile project quarter and annual reports and submit timely.
  • Strengthening partnership and networking with funding partners and stakeholders.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective utilization of project resources.
  • Maintain good team spirit and work relation with staffs, funding partners and target groups.
  • Committed to apply quality and accountability standards across program and organizational levels.
  • The Program  coordinator shall be responsible for overseeing project implementation,
  • Provide overall leadership and liaison with the donor and other relevant agencies as appropriate.
  • Responsible for producing monthly project progress reports, Tracking and monitoring activity progress.
  • Will ensure activity implementation abiding with the set indicators,
  • Provide accurate and timely status reports and support development of external donor reports.

Reports to: RR Administrator

Place of Work or Project site: Desta Mender, which is located around AA, at Burayou Town, 17Km from AA

Employment Type: Contract for two years with possibility of extension based on availability of budget and performance evaluation.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification and Experience:

  • BA/MA in Development Studies, Sociology, Gender studies, Regional and Local Development, Monitoring and Evaluation etc and any other Social Science fields with at least 5 years work experience for BA holders and 3 years work experience for MA holders.
  • Pervious experiences in the area of program coordinators and or Monitoring and Evaluation in NGO sector is preferable.
  • Have good track record proved by previous employers specifically in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Good report writing skill both in English and Amharic language is mandatory
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining healthy partnership with funding partners, government partners and other NGOs working in partnership.

Required Skills:

  • Excel application skill is mandatory
  • Strong communication skills.
