The bank was founded by sixteen visionary entrepreneurs who recognized the vital role financial institutions play in fostering sustainable economic development. With an initial paid-in capital of Birr 30 million, they laid the foundation for what would become a key player in Ethiopia’s banking sector.
Wegagen Bank was established under the Banking Proclamation of Licensing and Supervision, Proclamation No. 84/1994. It was officially registered with the National Bank of Ethiopia on April 30, 1997. The Bank’s Memorandum and Articles of Association were signed and registered with the Addis Ababa Bureau of Trade, Industry, and Tourism on April 15, 1997, under Registration Number 1/34/4/89.
Initially, the Bank operated from its Head Office located in Gofa Sefer, Addis Ababa. In October 2017, Wegagen Bank relocated to its 23-story headquarters on Ras Mekonnen Street, in front of Addis Ababa Stadium.
Wegagen Bank is governed by a Board of Directors comprising a Chairperson, a Vice Chairperson, and eight Directors. The overall management is led by the President/Chief Executive Officer, who is appointed by the Board of Directors, supported by four Vice Presidents, sixteen Directors, and a Manager of Engineering Services.

Position 1: Chief, Trading Officer
Job Summery
Job Purpose : The Chief Trading Officer is responsible for developing and implementing effective trading strategies that maximize profitability while managing risk exposure across various financial instruments. This role involves overseeing client acquisition and relationship management, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, and leading a high-performance team of traders. The Chief Trading Officer will also optimize trading technology and drive business development efforts to achieve revenue targets and enhance client engagement.
Job Requirement
Qualifications and Experience : A Master’s Degree (MBA or equivalent) or
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional certification, especially from CISI is Mandatory while CFA and FRM are highly desirable.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in trading or investment banking, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Proven track record in developing and executing trading strategies and managing risk in financial markets.
Experience with specific trading platforms such as Bloomberg Terminal, Reuters Eikon, and proprietary trading systems like FlexTrade, Eze Software, or Trading Technologies is required

Position 2: Manager, Payment Business
Job Summery
To maximize the acquisition and retention of digital-banking customers of the Bank through expansion of the various digital channels (ATM, POS, etc), and ensure service delivery is as per the required service standards with the view to achieving the Bank’s business objectives
Job Requirement
Masters /Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, MIS, Business Management, Banking, Business Administration or related fields, with 6/8 years of experience of which 2 years should be at Principal or Supervisor level.
