CEHRO is a consortium of 17 human rights CSOs with full membership and with three associate members working on human rights, rule of law, & peace building. CEHRO is registered as per the CSO Proc. No. 1113/2019 with registration number 3932. It envisioned working towards the realization of human rights and democratic values in Ethiopia by creating a platform for strong and vibrant human rights CSOs. Its mission is to ensure the existence of an enabling environment for Human Rights and Democratic Governance through evidence-based advocacy, constructive dialogue, and partnerships for actions.

From its establishment, CEHRO has been determined and working for the advancement of human rights protection in Ethiopia by creating a common platform for human rights CSOs to articulate their voices and launch evidence-based advocacy. CEHRO works to expand the space for human rights CSOs and continue engagement with stakeholders’ building the capacity of existing and emerging human rights organizations to ensure effective human rights, democratic governance, and peace-building works.

Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: Project Coordinator

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks
  • Ensure overall operational management of the projects and delivery of results in accordance with the project documents and work plans
  • Ensure the implementation of the project activities as set out in the project document,  work plans, and other related documents
  • Prepare, and review annual, quarterly, and monthly reports according to the need of projects, & evaluations
  • ensure the proper communication of project results through CEHRO communication channels;
  • Ensure compliance with respective donor’s project management policies and procedures;
  • plan, organize and facilitate workshops, training, and prepare proceedings
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in planning and coordination of programs and their activities
  • Ensure project implementations activities are in line with the available budgetary resources and annual plan.
  • Work to keep projects on schedule, within stated budgets, and functioning smoothly
  • Develop concept notes and project proposals in collaboration with other program staffs
  • Preparing and contributing to CEHRO publications, briefing papers, training materials, legal opinions, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Job Requirements


  • First degree or Masters in political or social sciences, Law, international relations, development studies, public administration,  project management, or related field;
  • Minimum 6 years for first Degree and 4 years for Master Degree  proven experience in project management or officer position
  • Knowledge of civil society context and human rights situation in Ethiopia;
  • Experience in working with relevant projects from the governmental and non-governmental institutions involved in civil society, democratization, and human rights issues at the national level;
  • Experience in developing concept notes and project proposals
  • Able to use computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel) and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages,
  • Knowledge of effective participatory Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research systems
  • Fluency in Amharic & English is required (both spoken and written)

Position 2: Finance Coordinator

The Finance Coordinator performs a wide range of duties including all of the following:

  • Act as custodian of all CEHRO Financial system and Software.
  • Sets up all that is required to manage program resources under the guidance of the Operation & Finance Manager.
  • Oversee the financial operation of the organization under the guidance of the Operation & Finance Manager.
  • Ensure the monthly review of consolidated organizational budget performance against the annual project budgets; forecasting expenses and tracking the ongoing commitments against the approved cash position.
  • Advice the Operation & Finance Manager on Finance issues, trends, and changes in the financial operating performance and operational delivery; proactively communicating issues that are anticipated before they arise.
  • Assist to ensure the long-term budgetary planning and costs management in alignment with CEHRO’s strategic and project plans, especially to improve the organizational development, increasing Finance’s contributions to effectiveness and efficiency of the organization by leveraging technology and accurate information.
  • Provide input to the improvement and development of appropriate financial management policies, procedures and systems across organization; Ensure that adequate internal financial control mechanisms are in place;
  • Maintain financial information, financial records, donor agreements and staff contracts;
  • Prepare and analyze budgets, and make recommendations on expenditures;
  • Review and monitor expenditures to ensure that program funds are utilized appropriately by  the end of each month, each quarter and by the end of the  fiscal year.
  • Ensure the preparation, accuracy and timely submission of financial reports, such as: Monthly, quarterly financial reports of project budgets, expenditures, fund balances, and account balances; Annual project status and financial reports;
  • Check and verify all inventories and promote efficient management of organizational assets;
  • Provide financial inputs for project proposals, human resource management, logistics, travel and others;
  • Responsible for all statutory reporting, including government filings, administrative fees, taxes and audits are completed appropriately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adequate mechanisms are in place for budget monitoring and review and minimize significant expenditure variances;
  • Review accuracy of accounts and fund balances, and carry out periodic checks on financial matters
  • Support procurement, and obtain approvals from the Operation & Finance Manager on purchases related to the project;
  • Assist with the review of guidelines and collation of information for budget and monthly forecast preparation.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly period-end reports and schedules for review.
  • Maintain financial records for projects in QuickBooks & Peachtree in a manner that facilitates timely and accurate management reports at month end.
  • Maintaining compliance with internal financial and accounting policies, administrative procedures and local statutory requirements.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting on the financial activity of projects and services across all cost centers with an ability to provide information in a timely manner.
  • Review project documents, and provide support on forecasting budget;
  • Manage the annual budget process, providing guidance and support to Program Key personnel and other team members where needed
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs and program budgets and actual expenses;
  • Develop documentation of procedures and recommendations for process improvements;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Supervises: Finance officer, Accountant, office Assistant, Driver, Office Cleaner

Job Grade: G6

Liaison with: Program Manager, Project Coordinators, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Expert

Report to: Operation & Finance Manager

Required Travel: Occasional travels within project implementation areas

Job Requirements


  • Have at least University Degree in Finance/Accounting,
  • Has at least 7 years of financial management work experience
  • Has at least 3 years of finance experience in NGO
  • Proven experience on donor compliances
  • Has excellent MS Office application skills including MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Access, MS-Power point, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience using QuickBooks software with success; knowledge of Peachtree is desirable
  • Proficiency in English and Amharic languages; Ability to speak other local languages is desired
  • Proven ability to work with a team and build healthy organizational culture
  • Demonstrate ability to manage staff
  • Proven coordination and time management skills
  • Proven communication and negotiation skills
