Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) would like to invites competent and interested candidates for the following positions.

Position 1: Senior Human Rights Officer, Women’s Rights

Purpose of the Job:

  • To take a lead in the day to day implementation of research, advocacy and campaign plans to enhance the promotion and protection of women’s rights in Ethiopia.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Contribute to the development of annual plans of the Function on protection and promotion of women’s rights;
  • Conduct awareness raising and campaigns on women’s rights to ensure adherence to national and international protection standards and guidelines;
  • Organize and manage advocacy and campaign events;
  • Conduct assessments for identification of women’s rights protection needs;
  • Actively contribute to the execution of legislative and policy initiatives regarding women rights;
  • Communicate with and influence a range of external stakeholders and advocacy targets including the Government and relevant authorities on the basis of identified gaps for the effective promotion and protection of women’s rights and to give them voice;
  • Conduct or support the undertaking of research and analysis to formulate advocacy briefs and calls for the promotion and protection of the women’s rights;
  • Conduct legal review in relation to women’s rights to write advocacy and campaign messages and materials for amendment or enactment of laws that afford better protection to the rights of women as well as to ensure their compliance with constitutional, international and regional human rights standards;
  • Support the initiation of nationwide and regional movements to advocate and campaign for the promotion and protection of women’s rights, including the ratification and implementation of relevant international and regional human rights instruments;
  • Ensure mainstreaming of women rights as relevant in other advocacy and campaign activities of EHRC;
  • Conduct mapping of stakeholders that provide support to women who suffered human rights violation and are in need of support;
  • Actively contribute to building capacity, knowledge, values and standards based on identified needs of both governmental and non-governmental national stakeholders on women’s rights;
  • Conduct and follow up on advocacy initiatives to ensure implementation of recommendations, general comments and concluding observations of international and regional human rights bodies’ at the national level;
  • Participate in discussion forums set in institutions and organizations, including other NHRIs for joint programming, sharing of experience and promising practices, regarding the promotion and protection of children rights in their policies and organizational operations;
  • Keep the Coordinator informed with regular detailed and accurate reports on progress and challenges in advocating and campaigning for the promotion and protection of children and children rights conducted by the Team;
  • Undertake other duties and tasks deemed necessary.

LOCATION: Head Office/Addis Ababa/

REPORT TO: Director, Women’s and Children’s Rights

DURATION: Open/Indefinite Contract

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 26,417.00- ETB 31,463.00 plus ETB 7,200.00 Housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MA in Human Rights Law, LL.M in Human Rights, LLM in International Law, LLM in Law (Public Law relevant to Human Rights). Candidates with Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) but with exceptional experience can be considered.
  • 5 years of relevant experience with MA Experience in management of resources
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.

Position 2: Finance and Administration Coordinator

Purpose of the Job:

Overall responsibility for coordinating the finance, HR, procurement and administration functions at the Branch Office Level in line with financial and administrative policies and procedures of the Commission.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Implement internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures in collaboration with Head Office Finance team and internal audit for activities such as budget administration, cash and accounting system both in branch/head office;
  • Ensure proper and timely account of all funds receipts and disbursements;
  • Ensure integrity of the accounting system by monitoring that accounting transactions are correctly posted and financial and management reports are produced on a timely basis both in branch/head office;
  • Review periodic cash flow projections, establish daily and weekly cash positions, and execute financing decisions. Follow up cash transfer requests and reports submitted to the HO timely;
  • Review  transactions to ensure they are properly recorded, and books of accounts are balanced, and authorize records of transactions;
  • Review expenditure of budgets transferred to the BO;
  • Monitor reconciliation of cash and bank balances and accounts;
  • Ensure timely and accurate follow up of financial information data to all relevant departments;
  • Coordinate work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the Commission’s financial records both in branch/head office;
  • Serve as a focal person for HR related matters of the BO. Coordinate with the HO in all employee matters including recruitment, pension, performance management, disciplinary and training and development;
  • Maintain adherence to HR and admin policies;
  • Ensure maintenance and updated records of employee files and HRIS system;
  • Provide day to day support to employee requests including writing various letters and correspondences;
  • Closely work with the Head of the Branch Office and disciplinary committee to follow up disciplinary cases, and issues;
  • Set up a system to support managers and directors to monitor attendance of employees;
  • Review and work with relevant managers to provide responses to employee requests/complaints;
  • Monitor procurement of goods and services for the BO.

REPORT TO: Director, Finance and Administration

DURATION: Open/Indefinite Contract

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 30,907.00- ETB 36,811.00 plus ETB 10,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BA Degree in Accounting and Finance
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience and knowledge of IFMIS, IFRIS is required
  • Experience working with various donors is a plus
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous
